Thanks to The Ever Hopeful Fund for your incredible support, we’ve been able to purchase 16 new infusion pumps for the pediatric oncology unit at McMaster Children's Hospital!

These pumps are a game-changer for our young patients undergoing chemotherapy. They ensure medications are delivered with precision, making treatment safer, more comfortable, and less intrusive. Plus, their quiet operation allows kids to move around freely without interrupting their care.

Helmets have become second nature for skiers and snowboarders. On toboggan hills, though, that safety mindset disappears. From toddlers to teens, kids are hurtling downhill on sleds wearing nothing but winter hats, leaving their heads unprotected if they crash or ram into an object, like a fence or tree. A study by our Dr. April Kam found that head injuries are the most common sledding injury seen in our emergency department. Head injuries are especially concerning because in rare cases, they can cause lasting brain damage or cognitive difficulties.

Find out what you can do to protect your kids, so they can have fun sledding safely. Read more at www.hamiltonhealthsciences.ca/share/head-injuries-top-kids-sledding-injuries/

What’s in a voice? It depends on what can be heard, says our Dr. Laura Duncan, who's leading a study that's using artificial intelligence to analyze the voices of teenagers from our Child and Youth Mental Health Program to better understand their mental health needs.

AI interprets vocal patterns very differently than human listeners, says Duncan. “We’re using AI to explore whether indicators in patients’ speech can tell us something about symptom trajectories over the course of their treatment,” she says, adding that such insights can help health-care teams better understand patients’ needs and plan the best and most appropriate treatments.
