Campbell (formally Magee), Lorraine Mary
Lorraine was born December 3, 1948 in Montreal, Quebec and died July 5, 2022 in Oshawa, Ontario at the age of 73, after a courageous battle with end stage renal failure.
She leaves behind her daughters Tracy (Jason), Robyn and Samantha; 5 beloved grandchildren: Kalia, Paige, Alexia, Thomas and Emmy; siblings Peter, Patricia and Malcom; as well as her niece, nephews and friends. Predeceased by her parents, Crichton Campbell and Rose Marie Campbell (nee Proudfoot). `
Our mom was tough and resilient. She was a fighter - having overcome multiple serious health complications over the years and hanging on for weeks in the palliative care wing of Lakeridge Oshawa despite having discontinued dialysis. A “medical miracle” the doctors said, and we are so very grateful that we were given this additional time with her.
Our mom was kind and compassionate and she loved people and animals. She never met a dog that she didn’t want to adopt or a stranger she didn’t want to help or befriend.
She was funny and had a great sense of humor and an acerbic wit (she would love that we are using that word to describe her). She was intelligent and well read - books were her favorite pastime. She had a great sense of style, loved her bling and couldn’t pass up a good sale or a trip to Value Village.
Our mom was spirited, stubborn and a force to be reckoned with most days, living her life and accepting her death on her terms.
Our mom will be missed by so many people whose lives she touched. She had a warm beautiful smile and for those of you who were fortunate enough to have known her, you will feel an ache in your hearts too.
We know that she has found her peace after a life well lived and loved, and that she is rocking a colour-coordinated outfit with accessories, somewhere in her own patch of sunlight looking down on us …
A special thanks to the nurses and PSW’s of 4F at Lakeridge Oshawa Hospital for the care, compassion and empathy given to our mom so she was able to maintain her dignity in the end.
As per her wishes, Lorraine will be cremated and her ashes scattered on her beloved childhood mountain.
A Celebration of Life will be held for family at the Courtyard by Marriott Oshawa (1011 Bloor St. E.) on Thursday, July 14th from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the Ontario SPCA would be appreciated.
