One of the reasons we participate in the annual BRIGHT Run is because we know exactly where our fundraising dollars are going 💖💸

Better still, we know where they’re staying 📍— right here in our community at Juravinski Cancer Centre (JCC) and McMaster University 🏥🎓 supporting breast cancer research that improves prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and patient care 🔬✨

While the impact is local for those of us who are breast cancer survivors 💕, the reach of this important research is truly international 🌍

Disbursing funds for research is serious business — and we are forever mindful of our responsibility to our fundraisers, participants, generous donors, and community partners 🤝💞

🧠🎗️ How Artificial Intelligence (AI) Is Helping Advance Cancer Care

This winter, during a research seminar at the Escarpment Cancer Research Institute ❄️🔬, a conversation about “Blue Monday” turned into one filled with hope — thanks to exciting progress in cancer research. One area making a real impact? Using AI to support the development of clinical practice guidelines that help clinicians make evidence-based decisions 💡.

By helping researchers sort through thousands of studies more efficiently 📊🤖, AI has the potential to reduce workload and strengthen breast cancer care. 💬 “I feel like I’ve found another big family!” 💙

❓ Why did you get involved with BRIGHT Run?

Many years ago, a friend who worked at the Juravinski Cancer Centre as a breast cancer researcher 🎗️ introduced me to this incredible event — and even signed me up as a volunteer 🙋‍♀️.

From the very first year, I was amazed 🤍 by how many people came together for such a large cancer fundraising event, especially knowing that BRIGHT Run is powered entirely by volunteers 💪✨.

I was especially inspired by event chair Nancy McMillan 🌟 — her energy and enthusiasm were absolutely contagious! Since then, I’ve looked forward to coming back every single year 😊.

And every time BRIGHT Run ends with the presentation of that big cheque 💰🎗️ for such a meaningful cause, it only makes me more excited to return 💖.
