Physiotherapy vs. Chiropractic

Most of you know our chiropractor Dr. Robinson or as we call her Meg, but for those of you that haven’t had the chance to work with her or are curious about chiropractic services, what are the differences between physiotherapy and chiropractic?

Both chiropractors and physiotherapists help reduce pain, improve mobility, and recover from injuries but they have slightly different approaches to achieve treatment goals.

Chiropractors tend to be more hands-on using techniques such as spinal manipulative therapy (SMT), often referred to as an adjustment, or manual therapy directed at the muscles and ligaments surrounding the joints.

Whereas physiotherapists use a combination of manual therapy, exercise prescription, and patient education to help reduce pain and restore function.

So which one is right for you?

Often, a combination of both physiotherapy and chiropractic is the best approach, but give us a call and our team can help guide you!

Did you know we can help with jaw pain?

The temporomandibular joint, commonly called the TMJ, is your jaw joint. There are two temporomandibular joints, one on each side of your head, just in front of your ears. If you place your fingertips on top of the skin in front of your ears and open your mouth so your jaw drops you will feel the joint moving under your fingers.

Common symptoms related to TMJ disorders are:

➡️ Pain or aching in the jaw bone, jaw muscles, head, neck, face, or ear (often in front of or below the ear) or other muscles surrounding the jaw area.
➡️ Clicking, popping, grinding or grating sounds when moving the jaw.
➡️ Difficulty opening/closing the mouth or moving the jaw. It is often particularly difficult to open the mouth wide.
➡️ Locked jaw. The jaw either gets stuck in one position, (more commonly the open position but can also be in the closed position).
➡️ Swelling over the TMJ.
➡️ Difficulty chewing, biting, yawning or moving the mouth with ease.
➡️ A feeling of change in your bite position
➡️ Headaches.
➡️ Dizziness.
➡️ Ringing in the ear (tinnitus).
➡️ A feeling of fullness in the ear.

If you or someone you know is suffering with any of these symptoms give the clinic a call and book an assessment, we are here to help! 📞
