The GERAS Centre for Aging Research is part of Hamilton Health sciences and affiliated with McMaster University. Our mission is to make life better for older adults by bringing the best research to the frontlines of care as quickly as possible. Our primary research focus is to lead in research and innovation in the Geriatric 5Ms: mind, mobility, medications, multi-complexity by building a framework of what matters most for older adults. We are leaders in research, innovation and learning for the benefit of our community and the world. We are at the forefront of several innovative research initiatives focused on maximizing the resilience of vulnerable older adults. With our rapidly aging population, and with more people living with chronic disease, our work has never been more important. We have been working hard towards our goal to enable people to age with dignity and independence. Lead in geriatric research, innovation and learning for the benefit of the community and beyond;

2. Create therapeutic programs tailored to meet the needs of our older adults;

3. Empower older adults and their families through information and solutions for everyday living.

Are you currently living in long-term care and passionate about making a difference? We’re looking for 1 or 2 Residents to help shape the future of care.

This role represents the collective voice and improves the health, independence, and quality of life of residents living in LTC.

Who we’re looking for:
✔️ Currently living in long-term care
✔️ Able to meet online 2–3 times per year
✔️ Have lived experience with falls and/or fractures
✔️ Interested in sharing your perspective to help improve care

Your experience matters. Your voice can create meaningful change.

Join us in collaboration with the Ontario Association of Residents'​ Councils (OARC) in strengthening care and support for residents across communities. 💙

Congratulations to our team and our co-investigators on the recent publication in BMC Trials, funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research ✨ 👏

This paper presents the protocol for a clinical trial that aims to investigate whether a fracture prevention program known as the PREVENT model is effective in reducing hip fractures in long-term care homes (LTC) compared to control homes that continue their usual care.
