Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is not a private matter — it’s a public crisis. Thanks to a recent announcement in Hamilton, more support is on the way.

Alongside fellow Councillors Jeff Beattie, Mike Spadafora, and Matt Francis, I was honoured to attend an announcement with MPP Monica Ciriello and Hamilton Police Service Chief Frank Bergen regarding $200,000 in provincial funding for a new dedicated IPV program.

Funded through Ontario’s Civil Remedies Grant Program, this investment will help provide trauma-informed survivor support, safety planning, education, and risk assessment. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home — and until they do, our work continues.

We also welcomed an additional provincial investment of more than $2.7 million for St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton to support critical hospital infrastructure upgrades and maintain quality patient care.

This day was a great example of how strong partnerships between governments, healthcare, and community agencies build a stronger Hamilton.

This coming Sunday from 11:00am - 2:30pm brings the entrepreneurial spirit alive at Eastmount Centre with area youth setting up and selling items at their tables! Your kids can also be involved in this Sunday's "Kids Entrepreneur Market" too! Shop and support local young people honing their vendor skills! And if you can't make this one, then plan for Sunday, June 28th instead. 👏

Last night, I had the privilege of attending a cheque presentation recognizing a remarkable $20,000 contribution.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Elder Association and continue to make a meaningful impact through their annual fundraising efforts in support of the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre. Their generosity, spirit of service, and steadfast commitment to the community are truly inspiring.

It is incredible to witness volunteers come together year after year through to support such an important cause. Their dedication is helping bring hope, healing, and vital support to countless patients and families across our community.

ROAD WORK CONTINUES ON THE LINC THIS WEEK- Planned Partial Closure (Phased Rolling Shoulders).

In accordance with the Escarpment Access Closure Procedure (PW-P-026-003), prepare for an upcoming planned partial closure on the Lincoln Alexander Parkway to facilitate street sweeping operations.

Road crews will implement a phased, rolling partial closure, as work will strictly target the shoulders, beginning with the outer shoulders before transitioning to the inner shoulders.

DETAILS:
• Dates: May 25-29, 2026 inclusive
• Time: 09:00 to 14:00 (Outside of peak periods to reduce traffic system impact)
• Location: Lincoln Alexander Parkway – Eastbound and Westbound shoulders
• Work Scope: Street sweeping operations
• Ex*****on: Operations will be executed in two distinct phases:
o Phase 1: Rolling closure targeting the outer shoulders.
o Phase 2: Transition to a rolling closure targeting the inner shoulders.
o The closure will move sequentially, occupying the active work area only where the sweeping convoy is operating.
• Detour/Signage will utilize the designated sign truck and portable variable message signs (PVMS) as required for
mobile/short-duration operations to safely guide traffic around the sweeping convoy.

Thank you for being understanding, patient, and kind to our city's skilled and dedicated road crews during this scheduled road work! 👏

The Public Works Committee focuses on the important work of managing and maintaining much of the city’s core infrastructure and public services (such as roads, sidewalks, bridges, public transit/HSR, drinking water and storm systems, waste collection, parks, forestry, cemeteries, green spaces, infrastructure construction and repairs, as well as fleet and asset management for city vehicles and equipment). What happens in these meetings is both vital and fascinating.

Included on this afternoon's Public Works agenda: Updates to the City of Hamilton Waste Requirements for Design of New Developments and Collection and the 2026-2050 Hamilton Solid Waste Management Master Plan.
