Samudra Kadampa Buddhist Centre

Samudra Kadampa Buddhist Centre Samudra Kadampa Buddhist Centre is registered charity and a member of the New Kadampa Tradition – Int Classes usually run from 7-9 pm.

Meditation classes are open for anyone to attend and are designed to accommodate every level of meditation experience. The main focus is to help you develop a daily meditation practice so that you can achieve inner peace. Samudra Centre offers two distinct meditation class programs. The General Program (GP) introduces basic and advanced meditation practice. The usual format consists of a teaching on various spiritual subjects, followed by questions and answers, refreshments, and a guided meditation. The teaching functions to present Buddhist wisdom in a practical way, applicable to real life situations, that everyone can implement and benefit from. In this way, our meditation practice is supported by new ways of thinking and behaving in daily life. Various courses and subjects are offered throughout the year. No registration is required and you are free to join the program at anytime. There is a fee of $10 per class in order to cover costs. Foundation Program (FP) provides an opportunity for formal, structured study. The focus is on gaining advanced meditation experience and integrating Buddhist philosophy into day to day situations. Registration and abiding by certain commitments are required. For more information see the Foundation Program web page. Attending the General Program is recommended as a preparation for joining this program. Buddhist meditation practice has a centuries old history of effectively reducing and eliminating stress, fear, anger, anxiety and depression. If we think deeply, we shall realize that gaining lasting inner peace is the most valuable quality that we could ever develop.

CELEBRATING THE DAY OF BUDDHA'S RETURN FROM HEAVEN
Each year September 22 marks the celebration of Buddha’s return from heaven.

Traditionally this day also marks the end of the summer retreat. Every year, during the summer months, Buddha did a three-month retreat with his disciples. His reason was to avoid harming insects and other animals.

A SPECIAL DAY
One year during the summer retreat, Buddha transported himself to the Land of the Thirty-three Heavens to visit his mother, who had taken rebirth there after she died. Buddha deeply wanted to repay his mother’s kindness by teaching her Dharma.

This day is therefore very special. It is said that if we engage in any kind of virtuous action on this day it becomes especially powerful and our merit greatly increases. For example, if we offer one single light offering this action is multiplied to become millions of light offerings.

How do we practice breathing meditation?

First we should relax both physically and mentally, and stop thinking about anything.

Then we should gently and naturally inhale and exhale through the nostrils, not through the mouth, and single-pointedly concentrate on the sensation of the breath as it enters and leaves the nostrils.

We should remain concentrated on this sensation for as long as possible.

If after doing this our mind is still not peaceful we should repeat this breathing meditation again and again until our mind becomes completely peaceful.

Then we should apply effort to remaining continually peaceful day and night.

In this way we can make ourself as well as our friends and family happy all the time.

Thursday weekly meditation sessions
Learn many types of meditations!
Teacher: Gen Kelsang Rabgye
7:30 – 8:15 PM

The actual purpose of meditation is not merely to experience brief relaxation and inner peace, but to eventually be able to control our mind all day long. If we can control our mind, we will naturally be able to control our thoughts and feelings. In this way, we can avoid generating negative thoughts and feelings, but more importantly, avoid agitated reactionary responses to the unpleasant actions of others. Each Thursday will consist of engaging in two separate meditation sessions.

Over time you will learn many different types of meditation that are designed to address the many types of human problems. In addition, you will learn various meditation techniques that will allow significant progression toward becoming an accomplished meditator.

Since there are many hardships and challenges in modern human life, we need to care for our mind in special ways. Otherwise, it is easy to succumb to generating resentment and blame toward everyone and everything around us. Make Thursday evenings the highlight of your week!

Manifest a Beautiful Mind
Tonight's class: A Mind that is Selfless
Teacher: Gen Kelsang Rabgye
Tuesdays 7:30 – 9 PM

About the Course:
A beautiful mind is a mind that transcends all ignorance. All ignorance can be understood to be not knowing the nature, function, and potentiality of our own mind. If we transcend such ignorance we will transcend ordinary reality and abide in a supreme consciousness of complete purity. Thus, all suffering and problems will cease permanently. How wonderful!
