Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact (HEI) at McMaster University - the birthplace of Evidence-Based Medicine.

In the same year that McMaster launched its radically different medical school, a small group of thoughtful, committed individuals came together to create another innovation for McMaster – the first clinical epidemiology department in Canada. HEI conducts world-leading research into the nature, prevention and management of health care problems. HEI is where evidence-based medicine got its start, and where modern-day clinical epidemiology came into its own.
