Let’s talk about the new U.S. food pyramid that everyone seems to be talking about - whether you’re American or not.
Here’s my take 👇
Government nutrition guidelines are based on population nutrition: what works for the average person. But there are millions of people living in the U.S., all with different genetics, lifestyles, health histories, and needs.
So the real question is: does population nutrition work for you?
Maybe. Maybe not.
A few thoughts:
👍 I like that protein, along with vegetables and fruit, are prioritized
🤔 I am concerned that putting red meat at the top could lead some people to think that eating a McD’s burger every day is a healthy choice (context matters!)
Personally, I’ve never followed government advice on how I should eat. I follow the Joy McCarthy diet. Because there isn’t one right way to eat. There are many ways, and the best one is the way that helps you feel your best.
An individualized approach to nutrition is always the path forward if you want to truly thrive. What do you think?
