🚩 Colon Cancer Red Flags to Watch For 🚩

Colon cancer doesn’t always cause symptoms in its early stages, which is why screening is so important. But there are warning signs you should never ignore.

If you notice any of the following symptoms, speak with your healthcare provider:

🔴 Blood in your stool or re**al bleeding
🔴 Persistent changes in bowel habits (diarrhea, constipation, or narrower stools)
🔴 Ongoing abdominal discomfort such as cramping, gas, or pain
🔴 Unexplained weight loss
🔴 Fatigue or weakness that doesn’t improve
🔴 A feeling that your bowel doesn’t fully empty

These symptoms don’t always mean cancer, but they should be evaluated by a medical professional.

Early detection can make a life-saving difference.

At Charlton Digestive Disease Centre, we are committed to helping patients protect their digestive health through education, screening, and expert GI care.

📌 A physician referral is required for appointments.

Don’t wait for symptoms. Get checked before it’s too late. 💙

Are you 45 or older?
Do you have a family history of colon cancer?

These are important signs that it may be time to talk to your healthcare provider about colon cancer screening.

✔️ Screening can find precancerous polyps before they turn into cancer
✔️ Early detection leads to better outcomes and more treatment options
✔️ A simple conversation with your doctor can start the process

At Charlton Digestive Disease Centre, our team is dedicated to helping patients protect their digestive health through expert care and screening.

📌 A physician referral is required for appointments.

Your everyday habits can make a real difference when it comes to lowering your risk of colon cancer. Small, consistent choices can support your digestive health and overall well-being.

Here are a few ways you can help reduce your risk:

🥦 Eat fibre-rich foods
Fill your plate with vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds. Fibre supports healthy digestion and helps keep your colon functioning well.

🥩 Limit processed and red meats
Reducing foods like bacon, sausages, and deli meats may help lower colon cancer risk. Try incorporating more plant-based proteins into your meals.

🚶‍♀️ Stay physically active
Regular movement supports digestion, helps maintain a healthy weight, and contributes to overall health. Even a daily walk can make a difference.

⚖️ Maintain a healthy weight
Excess body weight has been linked to an increased risk of colon cancer. Balanced nutrition and regular activity can help support a healthy lifestyle.

🚭 Avoid smoking
Smoking increases the risk of many cancers, including colon cancer. Quitting is one of the most powerful steps you can take for your long-term health.

🩺 Follow recommended screening guidelines
Screening can detect and remove precancerous polyps before they develop into cancer. Early detection saves lives.

At Charlton Digestive Disease Centre, we are committed to supporting your digestive health through education, screening, and expert care.

📌 A physician referral is required for appointments.
If you believe you may benefit from screening or consultation, speak with your family doctor about a referral.

Together, we can take proactive steps toward prevention and better digestive health.

Many people avoid a colonoscopy because they feel nervous, embarrassed, or unsure about what to expect. That’s completely understandable — but we want you to know a few important things.

A colonoscopy is a safe and routine procedure performed every day by trained specialists. Patients are given sedation so they are comfortable and relaxed, and most people remember very little of the procedure itself.

More importantly, a colonoscopy can prevent colon cancer before it even starts by finding and removing precancerous polyps. It can also detect cancer early, when it is most treatable.

In many cases, the appointment itself is short, but the impact can be life-saving.

If you’re 45 or older, or have risk factors such as a family history of colon cancer, screening is an important step in protecting your health.

If you have questions, concerns, or simply want to learn more about what to expect, our team is always here to help guide you through the process with care and understanding. Get a doctors referral today!
