From our family to yours, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude.
The past few weeks have been incredibly challenging. Watching a loved one struggle and having to say goodbye is never easy.
The whirlwind of responsibilities that come with it only adds to the stress and overwhelm. These are all part of the human experience—painful and difficult—but through it all, we find strength in honouring my father.
As a way of saying thank you to him for the beautiful life he created for us, for his unwavering love and kindness, for always being there, supporting us, and encouraging us as we found our way in life, we leaned on our inner strength and the support of others to navigate this journey.
Here are some of the things that helped me through this process:
• Supporting our parents and each other by being present, praying, finding comfort in music and essential oils like Frankincense, Wild Orange, Adaptiv, Peace, and Console—to relieve anxious feelings, promote calm, and stay grounded.
• Pre-planning as much as possible so that when the time came, we didn’t have to manage everything all at once (and even now, there’s still so much to do).
• Accepting support from family, friends, professional support, and community resources.
• Adjusting priorities—shifting focus to what mattered most, allowing other goals to wait for now and giving myself permission to say “no”.
• Practicing self-care through finding gratitude in the “hard”, hot yoga, prayer, meditation, walking in nature, journaling, allowing space for emotions—without judgment and moments of quiet reflection.
• Staying consistent with health—movement, taking my daily vitamins as part of my two-minute morning wellness routine and making time for nourishing meals.
• Asking for help and delegating tasks—leaning on those willing to help support me.
• Utilizing experienced services—Friscolanti Funeral Home and the Venetian Club helped us organize a meaningful service and celebration of life for my father as well as take care of necessary paperwork and what needs to get done next. Journey Home in Dundas also provides free support and services to help navigate this inevitable part of life.
We are deeply grateful for the love, kindness, and support we’ve received.
Thank you for holding space for us during this time—it has meant more than words can express.
With Gratitude,
Doris and Family
