Shalem offers two ways of accompaniment:

Individual, couple and family counselling.

A non-profit mental health agency based in Hamilton, we have responded to the needs of our community and across Canada by offering innovative programming like therapy, community education and other services for over 60 years. This includes specialized therapy for children and youth who struggle with attachment disorders and their caregivers. We deeply honour and respect all those who embark on a journey of healing. At Shalem, we hold space for the full story. Grief, healing, and hope. Whatever your weekend looks like this year, we wish you a gentle and restful long weekend.

Our offices will be closed Friday through Monday for the Easter weekend, and will reopen on Tuesday.

More people are turning to AI for mental health support. But how do we use these tools wisely?

Here are a few thoughtful recommendations, adapted from the CMHA National, to help guide how we approach AI as a tool in our mental health journeys.

Happiness is often framed as something we pursue individually. But many of the moments that support our wellbeing happen in relationship. Being listened to, feeling understood, knowing we are not alone.

At Shalem, we believe mental health care is deeply relational. Healing and growth often begin in spaces where people can share their stories honestly and be met with compassion.

On International Day of Happiness, we’re reminded that connection and care play an important role in our wellbeing.

If you're looking for support, you don't have to navigate it alone. Go on our website to learn more: https://shalemnetwork.org/.

On International Women’s Day, we pause with gratitude for the women who nurture spaces of care with compassion, steadiness, and quiet courage.

Today, we’re highlighting Jennifer Bowen as one reflection of the many women whose presence helps shape Shalem into a place where healing, dignity, and belonging can take root. Her leadership points us back to something we see across our community every day: that meaningful change grows through small acts of kindness, care, and connection.

To the women in our community and beyond, thank you. We honour the ways you hold space and keep choosing hope, today and every day.

AI can show the route, but it can't tell you why the destination matters. As more people explore AI as a place to ask questions or process their thoughts, we’ve been reflecting on what these tools can offer and where their limits remain, especially when it comes to mental health.

In our latest Mental Health Matters article, we invite readers to think of AI like a map: detailed and often helpful, yet sometimes mistaken, and unable to accompany us with presence or care along the way.

We’ve gathered some reflections on the possibilities, the cautions, and how to approach these tools with wisdom and discernment. Read more here: https://shalemnetwork.org/ai-and-mental-health-a-tool-not-a-substitute/

Bullying doesn't just hurt in the moment. It can leave lasting impacts on mental health that follow young people into adulthood. Anxiety, depression, and struggles with self-worth often have roots in these early experiences.

Healing should be available to everyone who needs it, not just those who can afford it. This Pink Shirt Day, we're committed to advocating for accessible mental health support for everyone of all ages. Every child and teen deserves the chance to heal, grow, and thrive, regardless of their family's income.
