🌟 Feature Friday Spotlight 🌟

This week, we’re excited to celebrate Daniel Semenuk, a longtime member of the Elements Support Services team whose journey is rooted in compassion, resilience, and growth.

Daniel’s passion for understanding the human mind began in 2009 while studying psychology at the University of Toronto. Soon after, he joined Elements, where he has spent over 15 years supporting individuals with acquired brain injuries.

Along the way, Daniel has led teams in long-term care, including during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and expanded his expertise into holistic wellness—studying Traditional Chinese Medicine, nutrition, and natural healing practices.

Now, Daniel is launching his own practice, Inner Alchemy, where he will practicing as a holistic clinician supporting individuals with chronic conditions and continue his mission of guiding people toward balance, resilience, and vitality.

We are so proud of Daniel’s journey and grateful for the dedication he has brought to our community over the years. 💙

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Today, September 30, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day honours the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities whose lives are forever changed.

On this day, we encourage everyone to pause, reflect, and learn from Indigenous voices. By listening and amplifying these perspectives, we can contribute to reconciliation in a way that moves beyond words and into action.

✨ Feature Fridays: Spotlight on Yvonne Heyden ✨

This week, we’re proud to highlight Yvonne Heyden, one of our dedicated Support Workers at Elements Support Services. Yvonne has been a valued member of our team for many years and was recently recognized by the Ontario Long Term Care Association (OLTCA) at the facility where she has supported her client for over 15 years.

Her colleagues describe her as a strong advocate who not only champions her client’s needs but also keeps them accountable, encourages creative thinking, and supports the broader care team and fellow residents.

Yvonne shared with us what continues to inspire her after more than 30 years in the social service field:

“I have been in the social service field for over 30 years, and along the way I’ve discovered that my greatest passion is advocating for the clients and families I serve. Each day, my joy comes from knowing I’ve done my best to ensure my clients feel empowered and heard.

I’ve had the privilege of working alongside staff in hospitals, nursing homes, and within the community. I believe in thinking outside the box to provide individualized support that truly benefits each client on their rehabilitation journey.

It is an honour to receive the Community Engagement Certificate, and I feel grateful to continue serving in this field with compassion and dedication.”

We are grateful for Yvonne’s dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to advocacy. 💙

✨ Feature Fridays: Direct Support Professional Recognition Week Spotlight ✨

This week, in honour of Direct Support Professional Recognition Week (September 7–13, 2025), we are thrilled to highlight April Oliveros, a valued member of our frontline team at Elements Support Services.

Here’s what April shared about her journey:

“Hi! My name is April Camille Oliveros, BSW, RSW and my social work journey has been deeply shaped through my community and the people I have had the privilege to work with. Growing up in Scarborough, I saw the first-hand impact that community programs and supports have on youth and families. Those experiences inspired me to pursue a Bachelor of Social Work at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson), where I focused on trauma informed care, harm reduction, and community advocacy.

Over the years, I've had the opportunity to support youth through community arts-based therapy programming with local nonprofits, as well as delivering presentations across Canada to raise awareness about body image and disordered eating through my volunteer work.

Today, as a mental health support worker at Elements Support Services, I bring all of this experience to my practice. I focus on client-centred care — supporting youth when needed and meeting clients where they are at. My goal is to empower youth to see their own strength and resilience.

Personally, social work is more than a career — it's a means of giving back to the communities that shaped me. I am so grateful to be in a role where I have the continued opportunity to learn, grow, and be supportive of others and help build safe and inclusive spaces. ” – April O.

We are so grateful for April’s passion, commitment, and the incredible difference she makes in the lives of those we support.

👏 Please join us in celebrating April and all the dedicated Direct Support Professionals who go above and beyond every single day.

World Su***de Prevention Day

Today, we come together to affirm that every life has value and every story matters.

Open, honest conversations are powerful. They help break down stigma, create safe spaces, and remind us that it’s okay to not be okay — and that support is always within reach.

At Elements Support Services, we are committed to fostering hope and connection. On this day, we encourage you to check in with those around you. Listen with compassion, offer kindness, and remember that sometimes, a simple conversation can change everything.

You are not alone.
