The unfortunate truth of owning and running a small business.

Running a business is really hard.

What they donโ€™t tell you is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety, and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid-back people.

People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore.

Friends and family will expect discounts and people will value you and your hard work less than a big chain store.

You have to worry about if you forget to email/message someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just canโ€™t get to everyoneโ€™s messages and emails.

Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is just often no work-life balance.

You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner..... All the while being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend...

Thereโ€™s a reason you donโ€™t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5-10 years. If they are successful they are overwhelmed.

It takes a toll. Itโ€™s freaking exhausting. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control.

Hereโ€™s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives.

Be kind, be patient, support small businesses and hopefully more of us will stick around!

I copied this from another small business owner that I support! Please support small business!

April is daffodil month...

Has cancer affected you or your family? Sadly, cancer has affected my immediate family.

I opened my business in 2015, after both my mother and son were diagnosed, in order to offer safer alternatives to many personal and household products that are linked to poor health and oftentimes cancer.

My son lost his leg to Osteosarcoma cancer in 2015. This is the same cancer that Terry Fox had. My mom lost her life to metastatic liver cancer, that spread to her brain in 2015, and my father lost his life to Osteosarcoma cancer in 2022.

Please wear a daffodil to show your support, and help fund cancer research.

Artisan Honey

This was one of my most shared posts last year. 3 or 4 more weeks and I'll be making it again! It was absolutely scrumptious โค๏ธ

I have 2 gorgeous lilac bushes, one white, one purple. Lilac is edible, non toxic and non poisonous, and mine have been unsprayed for the 19 yrs I've had my house, I decided to infuse lilac flowers in honey. What a delicious treat!! Lilac honey is wonderful in tea, on toast, added to salad dressings, and even drizzled on sharp cheddars and bbq chicken.

The lilac imparts a subtle floral flavour that is so delicious. Definitely worth a try, if you haven't already.

It's really easy to make, too. Just make certain both the honey and petals are unsprayed/organic.

Fill a mason jar with petals that you've picked in the early morning, when they're most fragrant. (I used different amounts in each jar, and of course the jar packed with petals is the most fragrant.). Top with raw honey, lid and place in a sunny window for 3 or 4 days. That's it. I personally eat the flowers, but you can strain them if you want.

This delicately infused honey will last for a few months in the cupboard, or indefinitely refrigerated. Note it will crystallize in the fridge, but melts readily on warm toast.

Did I mention it's really good for you too!

Next stop Organic Lavender honey Yum ๐Ÿ’

Thanks to the bees ๐Ÿ

The Bee-utiful dandelion, many pollinators first food source, is often referred to as a lowly w**d, but did you know that dandelions were once revered as one of the most healing herbs, and have been used as a powerful medicine for well over a thousand years by herbalists, starting in Arabian times (10th & 11th century), in Chinese medicine, and was even used by Egyptians, Greeks and Romans?

They are still a symbol of resilience, healing and hope in many cultures throughout Europe and Asia.

From root to stem, from leaves to flower, every part of Mother Natures gift can be utilized as food and medicine.

There is something so beautiful about a field of dandelions in bloom ๐ŸŒผ
