CCA’s Executive Vice President Dennis Laycraft was a witness at the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food on Thursday, September 25. He shared that we truly believe Canada has some of the greatest potential in the world to be one of the world’s leading food producers and drive competitive growth in the Canadian economy. In order to best support these opportunities, CCA calls for regulatory alignment with the USA that reflects the integration of the North American beef industry, particularly alignment on the removal of specified risk material (SRM) and harmonization of drug regulations with the USA. Canada has the highest quality grain-fed beef in the world and looks to our federal and provincial governments to support our efforts to meet the growing world demand for Canadian beef.

Hamiota Feedlot Ltd is currently accepting applications for a full-time Herd Health Technician.
We are a custom feedlot, backgrounding and finishing up to 12,500 head of cattle. Applicants must be punctual, reliable and work well with others. Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, welding and cattle experience are assets. Applicants with mechanical experience are preferred.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
-Water bowl maintenance
-Fence repairs and construction
-Yard maintenance
-Equipment operation - feed truck, loader, tractor, skid steer
-Regular maintenance of equipment
-Assisting in processing cattle
-Assisting in feeding cattle

Applicants must be punctual, reliable and work well with others. Electrical, plumbing, welding and cattle experience are assets.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
-Safely and efficiently delivering feed and water to cattle
-Operate and maintain working order and daily maintenance of truck and feed wagon and other equipment as required
-Work with nutritionist to ensure accurate feed rations are provided
-Load feed ingredients, monitor feed levels and quality
-Clean feed bunks and surrounding areas to minimize waste and maintain a healthy environment
-Ensure watering equipment is functioning well, maintained as needed and cleaned

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
-Checking pens for health concerns in the cattle and pulling them for treatment
-Sorting pens
-Treating cattle
-Helping with maintenance of water bowls
-Operating equipment such as a loader, skid steer and tractor
-Keeping treating facilities clean and organized
-Assist in drug inventory for treatments
