Preparing for a Manitoba storm. Our work is not easy. But we are so devoted to our animals. Boy, does our team work hard! So devoted and talented - committed through all the loaded challenges and tough circumstances. And boy do we push for excellence and challenge ourselves to do and be better every day! I am so humbled and grateful.

The extreme change in weather is not easy on anyone - staff or cattle. And the very long hours! The character of a person who works in a feedlot with live animals is second to none - in my humble opinion. They sacrifice. They freeze. They sweat underneath freezing. They change personal and family plans because that’s what it takes. I am so proud of this team!

Double bedding and so far they look pretty content.

Also, an unexpected surprise and Christmas miracle yesterday. Meet Georgie. She is getting bottle fed through the night until her owner picks her up.

And our office staff? We are all one devoted team! They will pick up a broom, open gates for bedders, help cover a silage pit and feed an animal through the night!!

Perfectly stated Jill Harvie!

Our Canadian Beef Industry needs to stay united on a National level. Not only to lobby on trade but many other key issues including the following:

This incoming government overreach is why having a strong and united Canadian Cattle Association is so important. Government will continue to push to control our industry and increase red tape. This government proposed policy has been in the works for years and the Beef industry did well holding it at bay. But it looks like we are going down this path - cautiously I imagine.

A suggestion to fellow producers. Three important questions to ask when attending Alberta Beef Producers meetings in the early new year.
1. Is ABP at the table in Ottawa discussing proposed cattle movement traceability requirements? If not, how are we supporting our CCIA representatives that are to keep CFIA from infringing on our business.
2. Why do Executive Members of ABP not want to sit on CCA? To my knowledge other provinces are sure to have their Presidents and top level board members on CCA for the utmost communications opportunities between boards.
3. How can we push to have CFIA answer to the Agriculture Minister not the Health Minister Federally?

Here’s the link to ABP meetings - it’s important to get out ask questions and get involved. https://abpdaily.com/producer-meetings/

There are new CFIA regulations about what you can do with your cattle.

The CFIA is expanding the Livestock Traceability Regulations, and this will affect you and your farm starting in 2026.

These regs expand the reporting requirements to the CFIA, including reporting cattle movement from one premise ID location to another.

If you own cattle, bison, sheep, goats, or pigs, this will affect you and your ability to run your farm.

Mark your calendar for Dec 17 and plan to attend.
