Emotional regulation support is one of the most common reasons families reach out to me for OT services.

Sometimes it looks like:
• Big meltdowns
• Impulsive behaviors
• Difficulty with peers
• Anxiety or school struggles
• Trouble with transitions or routines
• “Fine at school, falling apart at home”

Kids aren’t trying to give us a hard time. They’re often having a hard time.

I work with children, families, and schools to better understand the “why” behind behaviors and create practical supports for home, school, and everyday life.

If your child is struggling and you’re not sure where to start, feel free to reach out to see how I may be able to help

A little different than many practices…

I don’t keep a waitlist, and that’s intentional.
My approach is consultative and goal-focused. Many clients only need one or two visits (plus follow-up as needed) to get clear strategies in place.
Sessions can be in-clinic, at home, or virtual. Whatever fits best.
The goal isn’t long-term therapy. It’s helping you move forward with the tools you need, so you don’t need me for long.
Especially with long community waitlists, I aim to keep things moving and accessible when support is needed most.

A part of my work as an OT that I really enjoy is supporting adults who are struggling at work or in daily life.

Sometimes it’s someone trying to return to work after a concussion and realizing their brain just isn’t cooperating the way it used to. Other times it’s adults navigating focus, organization, or ADHD challenges that make work and home life feel overwhelming.

I love helping people slow things down, problem-solve what’s actually getting in the way, and find practical strategies that make everyday life feel more manageable again.

I see adults at my clinic or virtually, depending on what works best with their schedules and daily routines. Reach out to me lindsayhallot.com

Watching our parents age is hard.
If you’re in my generation, you know that quiet knot in your stomach…

I’ve walked this road myself, and as an Occupational Therapist, I help families figure out how to keep seniors safe, supported, and at home for as long as possible. Sometimes it’s small changes. Sometimes it’s bigger planning. Always, it’s about dignity and peace of mind.

Helping people stay safe in the home they love is one of my favorite parts of my work.

If this is something you’re navigating, I’m here. 💛

Ever wonder what an occupational therapist actually does?
In simple terms, OT helps people do the everyday things that matter to them, more easily, safely, and with less stress.

I work with:
• Children with sensory differences, fine motor challenges, ADHD, and emotional regulation struggles
• Adults whose mobility has changed and want to make their home safer or families supporting aging parents
• Wheelchairs (there’s a lot that goes into getting the right one, and it truly matters)
• Mental health support. Helping people get back on track and feel more like themselves
• Ergonomics. Looking at your workstation to reduce pain and strain

If any of this sounds like something you or your family might need, please reach out. I’d be happy to help

Does writing feel like WAY more work than it should for your kiddo?

Maybe you’ve noticed:
• A pencil grip that looks a little tricky
• Pressing super hard on the paper
• Writing that takes forever
• Avoiding drawing or art
• Big feelings when it’s time to write

When writing is this hard, it’s not about effort, it’s about how the hands, body, and brain are working together. As an Occupational Therapist, I help figure out what’s getting in the way and support kids so writing (and school!) feels easier and more successful.

Writing shouldn’t end in tears. 😢 Reach out!

Behind the scenes of OT, there are relationships that last a lifetime.
This is my best friend from occupational therapy school — we met over 24 years ago and have been best friends ever since. This photo is from a little reunion just after New Year’s 🤍

Occupational therapy has always been about people, connection, and supporting one another — and I feel really lucky to still be living that every day.

Throwback to this hike… one of those faces says it all.

That day didn’t go as planned. Two very dysregulated kids, two exhausted parents.

One thing I remind families (and myself)- kids aren’t born knowing how to regulate their emotions. They learn it from the adults around them through co-regulation.

Before we can help kids calm their bodies and emotions, we have to regulate ourselves first and that’s often the hardest part.

Emotional dysregulation has been a very common reason for new referrals lately. I’m always happy to support these families, but this work truly takes teamwork between the child, the family, and me.

You’re not alone, I am happy to support you and your kiddo on the emotional regulation journey.

I hesitated to share, but grief can feel isolating. Filmed at my dad’s memorial bench—a reminder to give yourself grace this holiday season. If you’re struggling, you’re not alone.

Supporting Your Kiddos Emotional Regulation

As an Occupational Therapist (and a parent), I know how hard it can be when your child’s emotions feel big. Sometimes the best thing we can do is simply be there.

A few reminders I share often with families:
• Your calm presence helps calm your child.
• Keep your own emotions in check — kids pick up on our energy.
• Name what you see: “You’re feeling really frustrated right now.
• Practice coping skills when everyone’s calm — not in the heat of the moment.

Emotional regulation is a skill that develops over time, and your steady support makes all the difference. 💕

"FIRST-THEN" my favorite OT recommendation and home life hack.

I started using First–Then statements when my kids were little — and honestly, I still use them with my teens.
“First get your homework done… then YouTube or shoot hoops.”
Cue the classic “yeah, yeah,” but it works! 😅

From an OT perspective, this simple structure helps with organization, follow-through, and emotional regulation. It keeps expectations clear and routines calm — for kids and parents. Give it a try, it works!
