πŸ™~ Move from the fullness of the back to shape your future - The back of the body is behind you. This is obvious, but think of what this means in terms of your experience. You are moving from one place to another. You leave past events and experiences behind to move into the future and shape new ones. The back of your body holds your spine, and we talk about having backbone, meaning that we have determination and firmness in our makeup. When you move from the back of your body, you are moving from this place of firmness and fullness. You use the wisdom gained from past experiences to inform your future.

πŸ™ ~ Listen without judging to understand the world - We move through our days making judgements: what to wear, what to eat, how and with whom we wish to spend our time. But consider how we might balance these basic daily judgments with nonjudgmental listening: staying open to the thoughts and ideas of others in order to receive new experiences. We grow as human beings through the reception and assimilation of the unfamiliar. Once we hear what others have to say, we can then decide if and how we want to accept what they are offering. Listening to others ideas helps us fine-tune our own values and opinions, offering a deeper understanding of ourselves and a more expansive experience of the world.

πŸ™~ Becoming spacious in our bodies, hearts and minds- We often hear the term spaciousness in the yoga world. It can refer to an experience of the body, the heart, the mind, or all three. When we think about spaciousness, we think of having space in which to move, to reflect and to grow. When we move our bodies on our mats, our bodies become more open, more spacious, offering ease, relief and maybe joy. This can create an equivalent opening in our minds and in our hearts, causing us to become more mentally and emotionally ready to receive what the world is offering. This is spaciousness and we cultivate it through our yoga practice.

πŸ™~ Calming Anxiety- What happens to you when you become anxious? Try to remember a moment of great anxiety in your life and recall what the experience was like. Some common physical symptoms are a racing heart, sweating or feeling faint, or developing a headache or backache. Some people have difficulty speaking. The common thread is our emotional or mental state affects our physical being. When we can read our physical symptoms, we can address anxiety when it arises. We can deepen our breath, shift or stretch our bodies, or drink a glass of water, reminding ourselves that this particular experience will pass. In this way, we can often calm the symptoms of anxiety and quite our hearts.

πŸ™~ On yoga and intuition- Our yoga practice can make us more conscious of our environment and more sensitive to the people around us. This shift may foster a stronger connection to our intuition. Our intuition can increase our awareness of other people’s feelings and thoughts, enhancing our ability to connect to them. We may notice how people respond to us more acutely, or we may sense when something is either very wrong or very right in a particular situation. Because yoga develops our awareness of our bodies, it often helps us develop a corresponding awareness that extends beyond our physical selves and into our mental, emotional and intuitive lives.

πŸ™~ Honor your experiences - Our experiences, no matter how complex or simple, are of value. We are the cumulative result of our experiences and how we have processed them. The people and events of our lives have taught us, surprised us, embarrassed us and delighted us. What we have done and whom we have loved and not loved have all contributed to who we are now. Today, think about your life as a story and who the major characters and events might be. Your life story is as rich as any story you might read. Your experiences create the narrative of your life. Honor your experiences.

πŸ™~ Loving Kindness Meditation- Loving kindness meditation can generate kindness, compassion and feelings of love towards ourselves and others. To begin a loving kindness meditation practice, close your eyes and offer love, acceptance and compassion to yourself, inwardly saying words such as: May I be happy, healthy, loved and at peace. Let the meaning of these words sink in, feeling the loving kindness that you are offering to yourself. Then inwardly, to a friend or loved one say: May you be happy, healthy, loved and at peace. Next, inwardly offer the words to an acquaintance, then to someone whom you may find challenging or difficult. Finally, offer the words to all these people and all other beings you can imagine, so you can create a vast field of loving kindness within yourself. When you are ready, gently open your eyes.

πŸ™~ Cultivate peace in your daily life - To feel peaceful, try to cultivate peace in your life on a daily basis. Cultivating peace involves spending more time engaging in activities that foster this feeling within you, whether it is getting out in nature, going for a walk in the city, or sitting to meditate. Surround yourself with people who share your vision and support your dreams, so you engage in harmonious conversation and interaction. Arrange your home in a way that feels inviting and restful. Embrace each aspect of your life that nurtures your inner calm and creates an inner and outer tranquility in your life.
