In Loving Memory ~ Terry William Grantham
1960 - 2025, Lived 65 Years
Obituary ~ Terry William Grantham was born April 20, 1960, in Calgary, AB to Ida and Kelly. They lived briefly in Calgary, followed by Watts, and later in Hanna where he attended school. He spent much of his childhood on his Grandma Grantham’s farm where very fond memories were made. He often talked of her cooking, especially her fried potatoes and fresh batches of cookies. Terry was one of those natural athletes that excelled at every sport he tried, and there were many. Hockey was his main sport, catching the attention of a few Jr. clubs. He later joined the Anchor Glass Hawks. The team had years of fun together. It was a good thing, most of them were self-employed as game nights lasted into the wee morning hours. Terry enjoyed shop class. He spent hours rebuilding motors and doing autobody work. Terry graduated high school in January 1978 and that spring he went to work for Ken Halverson driving gravel truck on Special Areas. He had a work ethic like no other, even hauling a few loads on graduation day. Ken and Terry started their business K&T Trucking in 1979, which he and Deb later purchased. The company started out on the Halverson farm and later moved into town where they built their shop. His shop and well-maintained equipment are evidence of the pride he took in his business.
Everything had to be perfect or he wasn’t satisfied. Terry was an early riser and often had a full day in before noon. He also enjoyed cooking but preferred someone else to do the cleanup. His sense of humor and adventures (especially in his younger years) were enjoyed by many. Friends and family, both young and old, can tell stories for hours each with fond memories.
Terry married his high school sweetheart, Debra Halverson on March 10, 1984. Over the years they were very social and spent time on road trips, holidays, camping trips and everything in between. Together they would sit and recap their day, often with a few laughs.
In 1986 Terry and Debra welcomed daughter Ashley and in 1988 Terry’s spitting image son Ryley. Terry was very close to his children. He and Ashley rarely missed a daily recap. He and Ryley spent their days trucking together. As a family they’ve enjoyed years of camping, boating, holidays and everyday life. Ryley’s hockey career saw them take several trips across Canada and the US. In 2015 daughter-in-law Jade joined the family. She was an instant fit and joined right in with Terry’s witty and sarcastic comments.

In 2017 Terry was upgraded to Papa Terry with the arrival of granddaughter Kennedy and again in 2019 with grandson Parker. Papa Terry enjoyed every second with his grandchildren. Only the two of them could get away with sitting in Papa’s chair while watching a movie or having a snack. Kenny and Papa would snuggle in for movies and popcorn. Parker would have him down on the floor playing trucks or mini sticks. He loved watching their dance and hockey.
Terry is survived by his loving wife Debra, daughter Ashley, son Ryley (Jade) and grandchildren: Kennedy and Parker, mother Ida Nitschke, sister Lana (Ira) Ross, brother Doug (Tracey) Grantham, father/mother-in-law Ken and Betty Halverson, sisters-in-law: Vicki (Lyle) Marianchuk and Tammy (Cliff) Pahl, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts and cousins. Terry is pre-deceased by his father Kelly Grantham in 2017, grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
If desired, memorial donations can be made to either Hanna Dance Association, Box 1989 or to Hanna Minor Hockey, Box 1491, Hanna, AB., T0J 1P0.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, 2:00 PM at the Hanna Community Centre. A private family interment will be held at the Hanna Cemetery.

Forever Loved & Missed ~ Lyla Mae Spies
February 20, 1946 ~ October 4, 2025, Lived 79 years

With heavy hearts, we share that Lyla Spies of Hanna, Alberta, passed away on October 4, 2025, in St. Albert, Alberta, at the age of 79.

Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Lyla was the beloved daughter of the late Inez and Ken Kuan. Lyla spent most of her life in Rockglen, Saskatchewan where she grew up and eventually raised her own family until moving to Hanna in 2001.

Lyla also found purpose and connection in the work she did throughout her life. She held several roles over the years, working in her father’s café, served as a telephone operator, a nurse’s aide, and a bank teller at CIBC. She also operated her own restaurant, and later on managed the local bar. In each of these roles, she was known for her dedication and the thoughtful way she treated everyone she met.

Lyla lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, and deep devotion to those around her. She had a special gift for making people feel welcome—whether through her warm smile, a thoughtful gesture, or a seat at her kitchen table where stories were told and lifelong memories were made over coffee and homemade pie.

Her love for her family knew no bounds. She was a proud wife, mother, grandmother, and friend; always the first to lend a hand, share a laugh, or offer a comforting word.

Lyla is lovingly remembered by her husband Doug; her daughter Amy; son-in-law Jerome; and her loving grandchildren, Elize and Dominic. She is also remembered with love by her brothers, Leroy and Larry (Dorothy); as well as by her nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

Lyla was reunited in heaven with her beloved son, Derek; her parents, Inez (Alvin) and Ken Kuan; and her sister-in-law, Joan Kuan.

A celebration of Lyla’s life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hanna Community Centre in Hanna, Alberta. We welcome all who knew Lyla to join us in honoring the life she lived and the love she gave.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lyla’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Lyla gave her heart fully to those she loved, and we will carry that love with us always.

In Loving Memory ~ Ervin Edwin Bossert
Lived 93 Years, 1932~2025
A Celebration of Ervin's life will be held on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, 2:00 p.m. at the Hanna Community Hall.
Obituary~Ervin Bossert was born February 24, 1932, to Albert and Wilhelmina Bossert. He passed away September 27, 2025. He is brother to: Ida, Ruby, Doreen, Shirley, Betty and Herbert. The family lived near Scapa, attending school there until grade 4. Ida and Ervin often talked about walking to school from the farm. After a family move south of Endiang he attended the Annashhiem School until grade 9, then helped his father on the farm as well as renting land from a neighbour.

In 1956 Ervin purchased his own land. In 1964 Ervin married Thelma Clark from Rosebud. A new house was built and married life began.

Ervin planted cereal crops as well as hay, all equipment was J.D. green. He enjoyed working the land well into his 80’s, always interested in how the crop looked and what they yielded. He raised Charlais cattle and always a horse on the farm. He enjoyed and was eager to help neighbors with working of cattle and roping at brandings. Even after his herd was sold, he took great pride in watching his grandchildren show and sell their 4-H cattle. Ervin watched proud as his children followed in his footsteps.

In the 1960’s and 70’s Ervin played in the “Country Drifters Band”, consisting of Ken Halverson, Harold Butler, Herb Pfahl, Herb Bossert and himself. Many memories of sitting in front of the radio with a pen and paper listening to the lyrics of a new song and writing them down so the band could learn them. Ervin played music by ear, so when his children started playing piano, guitar and drums, he was eager to pull out his guitar or banjo and play along. Many friendships were formed over music and many evenings spent with friends having jam session. I do recall one story… Ervin and Thelma were attending a Christmas party and he took his banjo along to have a jam session. Unknown to him some of the Nickelback band was in attendance. He was pleasantly surprised and said, “Those boys can really play!”

Ervin and Thelma became very involved with the Scapa community helping organize dances, Christmas concerts, reunions, ball tournaments, horseshoe tournaments. Cards were played, crib, five hundred, canasta with family and friends. They encouraged all their children to participate. Dad, with encouragement from mom was known to dress up. Ervin and a few of his friends became a bathing beauty for a fashion show and a woman for Halloween. He could tell a good joke and pull a good prank. Dad enjoyed rodeo and attended many. Family was important and many weddings and reunions were attended. They enjoyed travelling and we’re fortunate to travel to Nashville, Las Vegas, North Dakota, British Colombia and Hawaii.

Ervin was a builder and fixer. He took up wood working, A new barn in his yard, bunk beds for grandchildren, coffee tables, desks, shelves, churned out wood bowls and vases on his lathe. His biggest accomplishments being his horse drawn buggy and the rebuilding of his Model A Car.

Ervin is survived by his loving wife Thelma and their children: Patti (Phil), Kevin, Todd (Melanie); grandchildren: Erin (Mason), Robyn (Tyler), Shanna (Brett), Cayden, Tayslin (Austin), Breanne (Brayden) and Willow; great grandchildren: Casey, Clarke, Ben, and Hayes; step-grandchildren: Theresa (Danny) Joseph and Timothy, Jill (Steve) and Torie, David, Autumn and Jace, Sandra (Nick) and Lucy. He is also survived by all his sisters, many extended family, neighbours and friends.

Dad you are loved, cherished and will be missed. Happy trails to you…until we meet again.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, 2:00 p.m., at the Hanna Community Centre. A private interment will take place at St. Peters Lutheran Church Cemetery.

If desired, donations in memory of Ervin can be sent directly to either: The Hanna Ladies Auxiliary, Box 23, Hanna, AB, T0J 1P0, The Heart and Stoke Foundation of Alberta, 1825 RD PK SE, Calgary, AB T2G 2N9, or the Canadian Cancer Society, https://cancer.ca/.

Forever Loved ~ Tara Lee (Graham) Nuhu
1982-2025, Lived 42 Years
Obituary ~ With heavy hearts, the family of Tara Lee (Graham) Nuhu, announce her peaceful passing surrounded with love and prayers from her dearest friends and family on September 21, 2025 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital.

Tara was born on October 1, 1982, in Drumheller, Alberta to Edwin and Faye Graham. Tara's greatest joy and light of her life was her beautiful daughter Amina Faye.

Tara could light up a room with her kind soul, big heart and fun presence. She was infectious, loud and had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor. Her love for animals was eminent from childhood. From the time she could walk she had a kitten in her arms and continued to adopt and care for various animals throughout her life.

Tara will be remembered for the size of heart and the way she valued her friends and loved ones. She supported her friends in all the ways she could and always had her immediate family to talk to and rely on.

The reality is addiction is a thief. It steals your soul, time and too often, your life. Tara's pain was louder than her love could speak. Her battle and suffering are now over. There is healing in sharing her story and if it may save one life from the bottle, Tara's purpose would be fulfilled.

You will always be in our hearts Tara Lee.

Tara is survived by her father Edwin Graham; daughter Amina Faye, brothers: Chad (Tyvan) and Kenneth (Brinley, Archer) Graham; many aunts and uncles including her dearest Aunt Fern (Barrie); all of her incredible cousins; and her closest friends: Kristy Brooks and Jenny Finnimore.

She was predeceased by her loving mother Faye Graham; friend Amanda Rock; and cousin Kari Bawdon.

No Celebration of Life will be held at this time.

We don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

Forever In Our Hearts ~ Helen Mary Standing (Brunner)
Helen Mary Standing was born in the Hanna Hospital on July 29, 1936 and passed away on September 10th, 2025, at the age of 89 years. She was a sister to eight brothers, a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a grandmother, a proud great-grandmother, and even a prouder great-great-grandmother.
Her days were filled with a myriad of responsibilities - from baking bread and preserving food, raising five children, to working at the United Church, and, for a time, driving a school bus. Mom was always busy, tending the garden, helping at harvest, or making meals for as many as 8 people that lived under her roof.
She also enjoyed activities like knitting, crocheting, sewing clothes, and playing games such as cards , puzzles, crosswords, and Scrabble. She also liked playing the electric organ and accordion. The odd time at family reunions, she would play the accordion with her brother Alfred.
Mom made an appearance in the film “Why Shoot The Teacher” and wrote poetry. She won an award for one of her poems, which she accepted in Reno, Nevada. She published two books of poems, of which she was very proud.
An active member of various community organizations, including the Women’s Institute, Lioness Club, and Agriculture Society, she enjoyed challenges and participated in the Alberta Senior Games and then flew to Brockville Ontario to compete in the national Senior Games.
Mom loved to travel, and some of the destinations she visited were the Grand Canyon, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Caribbean.
While these are some of the things that she did and enjoyed, there is comfort in knowing that she is now a soul residing in the Kingdom of Heaven and will forever be our cherished Mom.
A memorial service will be held at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Thursday, September 25, 2025, 1:00 p.m. If desired, donations can be made directly to the Hanna Ladies Auxiliary, Box 23, Hanna, AB, T0J 1P0.

Grief isn’t going anywhere and after losing someone you deeply
love, grief is here to stay-
It becomes part of who you are and because of love,
the grief you carry will never go away.

It leaves an undeniable stamp and becomes a permanent tattoo
on the heart-
The grief you now hold is sacred and nothing can take it from you
or tear it apart.

Grief isn’t the enemy nor is it something to hide
from or fear-
Grief lives in the deepest parts of your heart because someone
truly mattered and was here.

We all grieve because of love and in the end, love remains long
after someone takes their last breath-
There’s nothing more powerful than the bonds of love and love will always
be stronger than death.

The forever tattoo of grief on the heart is a reminder your loved
one remains in the most beautiful of ways-
It’s a reminder that no amount of time can erase the magical memories
from your shared yesterdays.

Long after a loved one’s heart stops beating and the pain of
loss becomes a reality-
Grief will continue to gently hold your hand as you find ways to
live life honoring your loved ones legacy.

There will be days when it’s hard to accept your loved one is gone
and the pain of loss brings you to tears-
But even on the hardest of days, the grief tattoo stitched carefull into your heart,
will continue to remind you your loved one is always near.

So when the heartbreak of loss feels like it’s becoming too heavy for you-
Put your hand on your heart and remember the special reasons for your beautiful grief tattoo.

With love - michele
