RWR WARRIOR PROFILE:
Kenny McCann
I grew up in a small town in southern Ontario outside of London called Belmont.
I Graduated college in 2011 and joined the Canadian Armed Forces in January of 2012 as an AVN Technician (aircraft mechanic) for the RCAF.
I finished my basic training in St Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC May 2012, trades training in Borden, ON in November and was posted to Cold Lake, AB in December.
I completed my CT-114 Tutor aircraft type course in Moosejaw, SK fall of 2013 and began to settle into my first official position. Working as a line technician for the daily flying requirements of AETE.
In my off time I enjoyed the outdoors mountain biking, fishing and camping with my then girlfriend, now wife, and son. Playing both ice hockey and ball hockey made the time fly by it seems now.
Feb 2015 I got a posting message to go back to Borden as staff at the CFSATE school where I had done my AVN training a couple of years prior. We packed up and made the cold drive. At CFSATE I helped to maintain the same tutor aircraft I had worked on in Cold Lake, but as training aids for the students to learn on. In spring 2018 I applied for a trades transfer to flight engineer and got married that summer.
Come September my new adventure began as I went to Trenton, ON for my initial FE Basic course. When graduation came, it came with another posting, and my final one, to 413 Sqn in Greenwood, NS.
We got to Greenwood April 2019 and got settled in. I went away that spring for my tech training course in Comox, BC for the CH-149 Cormorant and later for my flying portion in the summer. Things seemed to be going smooth and I loved my new job, I had caught glimpses of the darkness starting to creep in though.
It was in 2020 I knew something wasn’t okay, but didn’t know what that was yet. Spring 2021 I was diagnosed with PTSD and that fall I was grounded officially. I began numerous hours of therapy to try and get a handle on things.
We welcomed our daughter spring 2023 and I retired spring 2024 after just over 12 years.
Since my retirement I’ve struggled more than Id like to admit and went into a trauma and addictions program at the Guardians Atlantic facility in Nictaux, NS November 2024.
I am trying to continue to learn about myself, my life and my family. I was lucky enough to bump into the Cracked Armour family and haven’t looked back.
Thank you for all that you do, you have helped me more than I could ever say. There is hope, I found it again it feels. If you are out there and feeling alone, lost or broken I promise you that you aren’t. Places like the Returning Warriors Ranch have shown that to me, but I know it can be hard to believe.
Thank you Cracked Armour!
