Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is used to help people recover from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other conditions.

Basically, CPT uses the theory that PTSD is a disorder in which someone’s beliefs about the causes and consequences of traumatic events produce strong negative emotions, which can prevent accurate processing of the traumatic memory and the emotions resulting from the events.

Because the emotions are often overwhelmingly painful and difficult to cope with, PTSD sufferers can block the natural recovery process by avoiding traumatic triggers to function in day-to-day living.

CPT incorporates techniques to help individuals with PTSD get through these "stuck points" and progress toward recovery.

A medical professional will diagnose someone with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after exposure to an event that caused an actual or possible threat of death, violence or service injury.

Exposure could happen in one or more of these ways:
- You directly experienced the traumatic event
- You witnessed, in person, the traumatic event occurring to others
- You learned someone close to you experienced or was threatened by the traumatic event
- You are repeatedly exposed to graphic details of traumatic events (for example, if you are a first responder to the scene of traumatic events)

People who suffer from PTSD need holistic and individualized treatment based on their needs and preferences.

Do you struggle with falling asleep at night due to worries, stresses and a racing mind?

It is crucial to have a healthy evening routine for your mental health. How you end your day will have an influence on how well you feel mentally, emotionally, and physically for the day to come.

1. Listen to Music
Music can be used to free the mind and body. Listening to music before bed can be a powerful tool for relaxation and brightening your mood at the end of the day.

2. Try Mindfulness Meditation
Practicing mindfulness in the evening can help you let go of the struggles you faced during the day. Taking this crucial moment to relax and center yourself without judgement is a perfect way to end your day.

3. Participate in Quiet Activities
Calming your mind after a stressful day can be difficult, and falling into the routine of mindless scrolling on your phone seems to be the new norm. Try to disconnect yourself from your phone, tv and computer an hour before bed. Instead, try reading a book, practicing your favorite art, or just silently reflecting in a personal journal.

4. Practice Selfcare
Its important to show yourself some love everyday. For some it may be taking a bath or showering, doing skincare, or even as simple as brushing your teeth and washing your face. Doing one selfcare activity a day can brighten mood, alleviate anxiety, and weaken depression.

Inhale the future, exhale the past.

While yoga can’t cure addiction, it can be a helpful part of addiction prevention and recovery. Many studies have shown mindfulness-based interventions (such as yoga), have enhanced addiction treatment, prevention, and recovery from addiction.

Emotional side effects of withdrawal can include anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, stress and depression. Yoga can assist people experiencing these symptoms.

Yoga is also a healthy coping mechanism and mood booster for those in danger of addiction or relapse. Yoga offers a mind-and-body approach which considers physical and mental considerations - helping people move on from addiction.

Everybody struggles with over thinking from time to time, but did you know overthinking is often associated with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)?

Those with GAD have the tendency to worry excessively about a vast range of topics that range in importance. This can cause problems with overall mental health, relationships, ETC. Generalized Anxiety Disorder often causes those effected to refrain from living in the present moment.

What does overthinking look like?
- Worrying that moves from topic to topic rapidly
- Always analyzing the worst case scenario
- Straining to make important/ unimportant decisions and second
guessing yourself
- Difficulty concentrating
- Seeking excessive reassurance from others

Intense emotion can narrow your thinking and leave you feeling isolated and out of control. Repeated or unexpected loss can result in tiredness and lethargy.

In managing painful emotions, people can often limit their activities and thoughts. Fear of rejection and loss leads to avoiding situations that might result in loss or rejection.

If you have found yourself avoiding new experiences out of fear, you might benefit from stepping outside your comfort zone. We will teach you how to do that in ways that feel safe and empowering through our recovery program.

Art therapy is a tool that is used to support healing and better physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. By connecting your physical body, and your mental/spiritual mind, you can successfully clear your mind of negative thoughts and challenges, which in turn promotes healing.
