𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲 – 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰

Hay River, Enterprise, Kátł’odeeche First Nation, and Ka'a'gee Tu First Nation (Kakisa) are seeing elevated levels of Trihalomethanes (THMs) in their drinking water. THMs form when chlorine reacts with natural materials in the water.

No illnesses have been reported.

Historically, THM levels have been below Health Canada’s guidelines, including as recently as summer 2024. Long-term exposure to high levels of THMs, over 70 years or more, may increase the risk of cancer.

We’re sharing this advisory to help residents reduce exposure and stay informed.
Simple steps like using a water filter or letting water sit uncovered in the fridge can help.

📣It’s Health Information Professionals (HIP) Week!📣

This week, we recognize the incredible work of our Health Information Professionals (HIPs), the dedicated team members who ensure that patient health information is accurate, accessible, secure, and confidential across the Hay River Health and Social Services Authority (HRHSSA).

Health Information Professionals play a critical role in every part of our health system. From maintaining medical records and supporting continuity of care, to ensuring data integrity and compliance with privacy legislation. Their behind-the-scenes work helps ensure that patients receive safe, coordinated, and high-quality care.

At HRHSSA, our Medical Records team exemplifies excellence in this vital field. We’d like to extend a special thank-you to:

Meva Barrett, Medical Records Supervisor, and Cassandra Gagnier, Medical Records Clerk and soon to be CHIM graduate, for their ongoing commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and exceptional service.

Let’s take a moment this week to recognize their contribution and raise awareness about the essential work of Health Information Professionals in building a trusted, data-driven health care system.
