✨Why are we seeing so much acute low back pain lately?✨
Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen a HUGE uptick in patients dealing with sudden low back pain.
Every story was different… but most had experienced something similar before (including Dr. Kristen 🙋🏻♀️).
Here are a few key takeaways:
1️⃣ Regular care matters. Those who were getting adjusted consistently before their flare-up got out of pain faster.
Research supports this and we see it all the time in practice. Maintenance care doesn’t prevent everything, but it often means your body responds more efficiently when stress or injury happens.
2️⃣ Strength + movement are protective. When exercise, core strengthening (especially with a history of low back pain), and mobility fall off… risk goes up.
Prolonged sitting. Long hours standing. Less movement than usual. It adds up.
3️⃣ Stress is stress is stress. Your nervous system doesn’t distinguish between physical, chemical or emotional stress.
A big life event, or even just an accumulation of smaller stressors, can show up physically. Low back pain is a common place for it to land.
It’s a powerful reminder to care for your nervous system, not just your muscles.
4️⃣ Movement is medicine (even when it’s uncomfortable).
As hard as it can feel, gentle movement is usually helpful.
Think:
• Walking
• Marching in place
• Light glute + hamstring stretching
• Simple mobility work
Complete rest often prolongs recovery.
Low back pain is the #1 cause of missed work worldwide. It’s miserable. It makes everything harder.
But there is help. There are solutions. And you don’t have to wait until it’s unbearable.
