🚨 PSA: TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE CLARIFICATION 🚨

You may have seen posts flying around social media claiming that tonight’s blood moon will be visible across the world. Unfortunately, that’s not true for us here in North America.

The total lunar eclipse is happening this afternoon while the moon is below the horizon for Canada and the United States. That means if you stay up late hoping to see a blood moon, you’ll be disappointed. The eclipse will instead be visible across parts of Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa where it lines up with nighttime hours.

But don’t worry, the sky still has a treat for us tonight! We’ll be seeing the full “Corn Moon” rise this evening. This is the September full moon, and while it won’t turn that eerie red shade from an eclipse, it will still shine bright and beautiful as it climbs into the night sky.

Fun fact: this is our last regular full moon of the year. The next three full moons will all be supermoons, appearing slightly larger and brighter as the moon’s orbit brings it closer to Earth.

So while we miss out on the blood moon, it’s still worth stepping outside tonight to enjoy the glow of the Corn Moon. 🌕
