The opposite of depression isn’t happiness it’s expression.
When we suppress our emotions, silence our voice, or hide what’s really going on inside, we slowly disconnect from ourselves. We start to feel smaller, heavier, and more isolated. Depression often thrives in that silence in the places where we stop expressing who we are and what we feel.
Expression doesn’t have to mean putting on a brave face or forcing positivity. It’s not about pretending everything is okay. It’s about allowing what’s within us to be seen, felt, and released in some way.
That might mean talking to someone who truly listens.
It might mean writing, painting, singing, or dancing out your emotions.
It could be sitting quietly with a horse, walking in nature, doing something that brings you joy, or even crying until your body softens.
Expression is energy in motion and when we allow ourselves to move that energy, something inside us begins to shift.
We start to breathe again, we start to reconnect, we start to heal.
You don’t have to know the right words or have it all figured out.
Just start by expressing something however small, however messy and let it be enough for today.
What’s one way you allow yourself to express what’s inside, and notice and shifts when you do.
