Imagine sitting with you feet up for about an hour, someone massaging your sore, tired appendages. There’s the immediate relief of having all of those tiny little muscles and tendons that hold you up all day feel cared for. Maybe your inner being will get chance to sit down and heal too. Holistic wellness is infinitely valuable, book in and make it part of your flow of self care.

Reflexology doesn’t come with official warning labels. But if it did, they might look a little like this.

During a reflexology session, gentle pressure is applied to specific reflex points on the feet that correspond with different systems of the body. The aim is to support deep relaxation and help the nervous system shift out of prolonged stress mode.

That sudden silence, spontaneous sighing or even falling asleep are common responses. They’re signs of the parasympathetic nervous system becoming more active - often described as the body’s rest and repair state. As this happens, breathing slows, muscles soften and mental tension can ease.

Many people notice increased thirst or tiredness after a session, which is why hydration and rest are encouraged. Emotional responses can also occur. Stress isn’t just held in the mind. It’s also carried in the body, and when physical tension releases, emotions may soften too.

Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive complementary therapy that supports relaxation, balance and overall wellbeing. Sometimes the most noticeable effect is simply realising how tense you’ve been, and remembering what calm actually feels like.

Ever feel like you need an icebreaker with a new practitioner? Can’t take the silence?
You. Can. Talk. To. Me.
In fact I prefer it.

The joy of an holistic practice is that it focuses on the person in your treatment space, not the physical complaint alone. Sure, I want to know what part hurts, or what was scary on your last blood panel… but it is also really difficult to help you heal if you don’t share the joy, pain and stress of life with me. The most difficult person to work with is someone closed.

Your emotions need a chance to heal as well, and very often your body can’t follow without the grace of an open conversation.

So, how are you? Have you had enough of being the strong, silent type? I will happily make space for you. In fact, I don’t book my clients back to back, because sometimes they have more to say…

When is it time to let someone in after a loss? While everyone grieves in their own way, I would encourage finding someone to talk to. Having some sort of touch therapy can also be useful, because we grieve as a whole person, and part of processing that loss is unpacking the experiences, positive, and negative, that we share with that person (or place, or thing). Keeping self care and wellness regimens in your schedule when you are moving through the darker moments can be a great way of revisiting the present when the past keeps pulling you in. Find a with an so they will create and hold space for you as you . Body, mind and spirit are all involved and we deserve to be honoured as a whole person, in all of our life experiences.

There’s nothing quite like the way the sun reflects off the water. The stillness, the silhouette of the trees.

Some days it is so difficult to shift your focus to Love and Peace, centre on Joy… because everything messy vies for your attention. But we belong in the eternal state of Rest. It is our default setting, and it is time to remember.

There’s something about being happy and needing a rest on Saturday night because some of things you’ve been tabling for “when I have time, again…” got moved to the roster. I have left so much for another moment this last year, I was craving alone time. Not to fall into the abyss of mindless relaxation, but to wake the creative in me from her stupor and allow her to create more than dinner. I needed it. Piano was played, editing and writing happened, music was created, sunshine was sat in… and dust was left where it was.

I actually removed my mama hat for full hours of my day and remembered who I am.

Do you struggle with alternately losing and finding yourself in the roles you take on that are outside of your innate passion? It doesn’t mean you’re a bad mama (or parent), or a less than stellar employee, just that you need to discover the contribution only you can bring to the world because it begins in the depth of your soul.

Sometimes we need to heal some wounds that have moved our boundaries to unpleasant places in order to give ourselves permission to set the roles down and rummage through memory to find what makes our heart sing.

If you need a conversation about that, it’s one of the things we can do during the hour it takes to put your feet up and have a little reflexology done. Regain some balance, tend to you. ❤️
