Donkeys might have a reputation for being stubborn…
But they’re also big-hearted and surprisingly gentle.

And watching them with her is my favorite 🖤

Donkeys are known to have BIG opinions.

But they also bond deeply.

They’ll stand like this scratching the spots the other can’t reach almost daily.

And it's something that brings a smile to my face.

Every. Single. Time.

I walked outside and saw my daughter petting our donkey while he was laying down.

We’ve never been able to do that before.

Donkeys generally do not like to be petted while lying down because it makes them feel vulnerable. Normally he would stand up long before we ever got that close.

But today he stayed.

Part of my heart felt so full seeing that moment — knowing he trusts us enough to stay, even when he isn’t at his strongest.

And another part of me felt a little heavy… because the only reason we’re getting this quiet moment with him is because he hurt his leg.

Homesteading has a way of holding such polarity — deep connection and deep concern.

Tonight we’re just hoping his leg heals well.

And feeling grateful for the trust he gave us today.

One of the quiet gifts of farm life.

Fresh lactation cookies, made the way I’d want them if I were in those early days 🤍

Nourishing, not gimmicky.
Real ingredients.
No weird additives.

Oats, flax, quality butter, and the classic brewers yeast traditionally used to support milk supply — baked into something that actually tastes good.

Soft, comforting, and maybe too easy to grab when you're craving a snack.

Available in small batches 🌿
Message me to grab a bag for yourself or for a mama who could use some love.

Another batch of whipped tallow lotion coming next week 🤍

This all started because Haedyn once asked, “Mama, can we make homemade lotion?!”

She’s had sensitive skin since she was a baby — eczema flare-ups, reacting to certain sheets, even the polyester in her finger mitts. Her hands take the brunt of it, especially in dry winter weather.

So we started making our own.

Slow-rendered tallow.
Jojoba oil infused with organic calendula + chamomile — herbs our ancestors reached for to gently soothe and tend delicate, weather-worn skin.
A touch of arrowroot.
Lavender essential oil because Haedyn likes the scent.

Nothing refined. No hidden ingredients. No fillers.
I know exactly what’s going on her skin — because it came from our kitchen.

Now after we lotion, she rubs her hands together and says, “They’re so soft.” And that alone is worth it.

Truthfully? My hands have needed it just as much. Between chores, animals, constant hand washing, and this cold Saskatchewan air — I’ve had days where my skin cracked and bled. And every time I finally remember to use it consistently, within a day or two, my hands are no longer cracked.

Simple ingredients. Deep nourishment. Made for real life — dry winters, hard work, sensitive skin.

If you’ve been waiting for a restock, or wanting to try it I’ll be dropping off another batch next week 🌿

Sometimes a breed finds you.

When I first started researching calm, family-safe pigs because I want my five year old to be able to come into the pen with me, I kept coming across the Large Black pig.

Over and over they're described the same way:

“Dog-like.”
“Gentle.”
"Friendly."
“Easy to be in the pen with.”

Those things mattered to me just as much as growth rates and meat quality.

We’ll be welcoming a Large Black gilt early this spring, and she fits beautifully into our farrowing plans! If all unfolds as expected, we’ll have unregistered English Large Black spring 2026 piglets from her as well.

Gilt is unregistered English Large Black
Exposed to registered English Large Black boar.

Our focus with this line will be simple:

Temperament first.
Pasture raised.
Handled early and daily.
Animals children can safely learn around.

For small homesteads who want pigs that feel like a peaceful part of their land.

I’m especially excited about offering these to families or first-time pig keepers who want a steady foundation animal.

This is small-scale. Intentional. And growing slowly.

Large Blacks are a heritage breed known for their gentle disposition, excellent meat quality and mid range growth range (around 8-10 months) — but our heart is in raising pigs that feel good to steward too.

If you’d like to be on the early interest list for Large Black piglets in 2026, message me and I’ll add your name!

We don't raise pigs for speed or scale.

We raise them with consistency, space and care...
the way animals were tended to long before food became anonymous.

We raise them to know them.

These pigs have been raised outdoors with space, fresh locally sourced food, and daily care.

You know.. back scratches and belly rubs.

We'll be offering a limited about of pork soon for families who value knowing where their food comes from.

Reach out if it feels like a fit.

Haeydn wanted to claim this whole lavender loaf - it's been her favorite so far.

Buttttt ten bars will last her a long while and at her rate, she'll keep adding more to her collection as we keep playing with scents!

So we have some extras from this one if anyone loves a good vibey lavender bar 😍

$5/bar🖤
