Behind every therapist is… approximately 47 notebooks, an alarming amount of coffee, and a brain that never really stops thinking about humans and healing ☕📝✨

Meet the humans behind the therapy chairs. 💛

Amanda and Paula each bring their own style, personality, lived experiences, humour, and approach to the work — but we share the same core belief:

People deserve spaces where they feel safe, seen, respected, and genuinely understood.

Therapy isn’t about “fixing” people. It’s about making space for growth, insight, healing, and sometimes laughter in the middle of hard things.

So here’s a little sketchbook peek into the people behind the practice — the coffee drinkers, note takers, question askers, hope holders, and fellow humans walking alongside others. 🌿

✨ Amanda (she/they) – supporting adolescents and adults, in person in Humboldt or online from anywhere.
✨ Paula (she/her) – supporting adults and children, in person in Saskatoon or online from anywhere.

No perfection required. Just humanity. 🤍

Recently, we removed a comment from our social media stating that Amanda is unfit to provide mental health support because she is obese. The commenter further — and incorrectly — stated that obesity is a mental illness and that people with mental illness are not appropriate providers of mental health support.

We want to be clear: obesity is not classified as a mental illness. Further, experiencing mental illness does not preclude anyone from effectively proving mental health care; in many circumstances, lived experience enhances one’s ability to provide care.

Comments like these reflect the ongoing stigma and pathologization that many people in larger bodies experience every day — including in healthcare spaces. Weight stigma is not benign. It impacts mental health, healthcare access, therapeutic safety, and people’s willingness to seek support.

At Metamorphosis Counselling, we support Health at Every Size (HAES) principles and reject the idea that body size determines worth, competence, intelligence, health, or capacity to care for others.

Bodies are not moral achievements.
Body size is not a character flaw.
And people do not need to become smaller to deserve dignity, respect, or competent care.

We believe in compassionate, evidence-informed, weight-inclusive practice. We support people in all bodies and remain committed to creating spaces where clients feel safe, seen, and valued.

Because mental health support should challenge stigma — not reproduce it. 💛

Happy Mother’s Day to the moms, stepmoms, bonus moms, grandmas, chosen moms, grieving moms, single moms, exhausted moms, and the women carrying the invisible emotional labour that keeps so many lives moving every day 💐

As therapists, we spend a lot of time supporting mothers through the realities that don’t always make it onto social media:
✨ the mental load
✨ the guilt
✨ the overstimulation
✨ the worry
✨ the loneliness
✨ the identity shifts
✨ the pressure to “do it all” while pretending you’re okay

And as two moms ourselves, we know motherhood can hold both immense love and immense exhaustion at the same time.

Motherhood can be joyful and overwhelming.
Beautiful and isolating.
Meaningful and incredibly hard.

Mental health struggles during motherhood are not a sign of failure — they are often understandable responses to impossible expectations, chronic stress, lack of support, and the constant demand to care for everyone else before yourself.

So today, we hope moms remember:
💛 You are allowed to rest.
💛 You are allowed to need support.
💛 You are allowed to have feelings beyond gratitude.
💛 You are still a good mother on the hard days.
💛 Taking care of yourself is part of taking care of your family.

To all the moms doing their best with the resources they have: we see you. And you deserve care too.

Happy Mother’s Day 🌸

Today is Red Dress Day.

A day to honour and remember Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people and to hold space for the families, communities, and loved ones who continue to carry this reality every day.

This is not just about awareness. It’s about responsibility, and how we choose to act with what we know.

Real change comes from understanding the systems that have created and continue to fuel this crisis, including policies like the Indian Act, ongoing colonial violence, and the ways Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people have been made vulnerable through law, displacement, and disconnection from community.

We encourage you to go deeper:
Learn the history.
Listen to families and survivors.
Support Indigenous-led initiatives and community-rooted healing spaces.
Invest in work that is led by and for our communities.

If you or your organization are looking to deepen your understanding, we offer spaces for learning, reflection, and dialogue grounded in community, art, and lived experience. You don’t have to navigate this alone — lean on us.

We all have a role in carrying this forward.

❤️

Join us in continuing this work through community, art, & wellness.

Amanda Baldwin is a psychotherapeutic counsellor who works with adolescents and adults across a range of concerns, including trauma, anxiety, life transitions, and relationship challenges. Her approach is grounded, collaborative, and respectful—focused on creating a space where clients feel safe to explore their experiences without judgment.

Amanda integrates evidence-based practices, including EMDR, with a strong emphasis on understanding each client’s unique story and nervous system. She believes that therapy is not about “fixing” people, but about supporting meaningful change, increasing self-awareness, and building sustainable ways of coping and relating.

Clients often appreciate Amanda’s balance of warmth and honesty. She works at a pace that feels manageable while also gently supporting clients to move toward the growth and change they are seeking.

Amanda offers both in-person and online sessions for individuals throughout Saskatchewan.

We provide trauma-informed counselling and EMDR across SK, offering online and in-person support to children/youth and adults.
