Have you stopped to listen how you talk to yourself? 💭

Changing that automatic narrative can be difficult, but it’s not impossible.

Be mindful of the things you say to yourself. It doesn’t always have to positive optimism. Aim for gentle and non-judgemental. ☀️

✨ Walking the Middle Path✨

Especially recently we have seen how the universe can be filled with opposing ideas/ sides and forces.

I try to remember that there is always more than one way to see a situation, and more then one way to solve a problem.
✨Two things that seem like opposites can both be true.

Being more dialectical can help to reduce the emotional intensity that comes from unbalanced, all-or-nothing thinking or conflicts with other people.

You can practice by:
✨ Looking for all sides - thinking in shades of grey
✨ Asking yourself what could I be missing?
✨ Letting go of extremes “always-never”
✨ Validate all sides, accept reality and work to change
✨Play devils advocate
✨ Embrace and accepting change
✨ Noticing and letting go of self-righteous feelings / thoughts
✨ Getting unstuck from standoffs and conflicts
✨ Avoiding assumptions and blaming

Have you ever had a thought pop into your head and assume that it was true ? 💭

What about a voice that you hear often, that’s not saying very nice things, sometimes really negative judgemental statements ?

Do you notice if you’re feeling more tired, nervous, upset and angry that these thoughts tend to be more negative?

While these thoughts can seem very convincing and really true. It is important to remember that a thought is just a thought, a thought is not a fact.

Sometimes I wish I had the assertiveness of my almost 2 year old. She doesn’t need to think about it, she doesn’t make an excuse, she just says no.

In all seriousness though, having boundaries and saying no can be so difficult, especially depending on the person and/ or the situation.

A friend sent me a photo today that said “ The first thing to remember about setting boundaries for yourself is that when you do so, you are also teaching others that your needs matter AND encourages them to set their own boundaries throughout their own lives.”

Modelling is one of the three ways we learn. When we take care of our own needs and wants, we show others that their needs and wants are important and it gives them permission to do the same.

When we feel stress our body instantly wants to react - fight, flight or freeze.

Sometimes the most helpful thing we can do is stop 🛑.

When we stop we can take a step back, observe and proceed mindfully. Take a deep breath (or several) and take your time with how you want to respond.

Ask yourself:
“What do I want from this situation?”
“ How can I be the most effective right now?”
“ Do I need more information?”
“ Is this something I can do something about or is this something I need to accept.”
