Rain rot.

What is rain rot?

Rain rot is one of the most common skin infections seen in horses. It is also referred to as "rain scald" or "streptothricosis". The organism that causes rain rot appears and multiplies in warm, damp conditions where high temperature and high humidity are present. This condition is not life-threatening, so don't worry. However, while the horse has rain rot, any equipment that may rub and irritate the infected skin (such as saddles and leg wraps) should be eliminated.

What causes rain rot?

The organism dermatophilus congolensis causes rain rot. dermatophilus congolensis is not a fungus. It is an actinomycetes, which behaves like both bacteria and fungi. Most people believe that the organism is present in soil, however, this has not been proven. The organism is carried on the horse, who has it in his skin. A horse who has this organism in his skin may or may not be affected.

Did you know you can use essential oils to help rain rot? Tea tree, Lemongrass, Geranium essential oils actually aid in helping Rain rot get better!
Next time? Give it a try!

So!
After some research and planning it's looking like we are not reusing the barn on the land :(

It's not the correct height for horses, as well as if we go to move it, we'll it's going to get destroyed.

So! I have been doing some research and I'll be creating some drawings for a new barn that we will be building!

It's looking like Cedarwood Rescue Center won't be running next summer, but we are shooting for 2017-2018 to be opened :)

Thanks for keeping updated with us!

Here are the barns!
They look like they are in pretty good condition, but they are a few bad spots inside...
It's either looking like we are going to have to 1. Fix the spots and add reinforcements or 2. If the damage is to bad then we will have to tear them down and start from the ground up which is going to be even more costly....

We are hoping and praying we can get up and running by Summer/Fall 2017 but it's all depending on those barns...

At Cedarwood Rescue Center we are not only rescuing horses and giving them new homes! (but that is our main goal)
We also will be working with, training, and helping fix your problem horses if you find they need it!

I will soon have two amazing girls working by my side helping me once we get up and running!

Hoping to open in the Summer/Fall of 2017!

What's one way we are going to rehabilitate horses and help give them a second chance?
Aromatherapy!
I love essential oils and I have read and seen how much they do for horses!
It's the main aid that we will be using to rehabilitate the horses :)

Welcome to Cedarwood Rescue Center's page!

I am working on wanting to open my own rescue center for horses.
It's going to be a process but it's going to be worth it in the end!

I have some barns on mine and my husband's land that need a bit of rebuilding done, as well as fencing needs to be built and supplies needs to start getting stocked up!

It's going to take some time to get us up and running completely!

If anyone wants to help out in any way message me personally! :)
Any help is appreciated :)

Thank you all and I hope you have a great day! :)
