In my own spaces, I most often train and practice without shoes.
Honestly, given the opportunity, I’d probably be barefoot all the time 😆
To each their own (and I’m simply sharing my own preference) and individual factors will influence whether barefoot movement is useful and/or advisable.
I enjoy the challenge of range, mobility, stability and increased overall body awareness that it fosters.

Barefoot training can have several potential benefits for the feet and body. Fitness experts explain why people may want to consider working out barefoot.

Coach House Wellness
This is where it’s at for Restorative Yoga.
My happy place when I can snag a space.
Watch for monthly offerings.
Lead by an amazing Yoga business owner, instructor and teacher training facilitator…AND she’s a pretty awesome human too 😉
Recommend.

Someone recently asked me why I combine restorative yoga wth sound baths during the full moon so thought I would share.
No experience is necessary and for those that do not want to do restorative yoga they can still benefit from the sound bath by resting comfortably in an anti gravity chair

✨ Why Restorative Yoga + Sound Baths Are So Powerful ✨

Both restorative yoga and sound baths work through the nervous system — and together, they create the conditions the body needs to truly rest and heal.

Restorative yoga uses fully supported postures, long holds, and conscious breathing to signal safety to the body. With the help of bolsters, blankets, and props, the muscles can let go without effort, allowing the nervous system to shift out of fight-or-flight and into rest-and-digest.

When the body is physically supported, the mind doesn’t have to stay alert.

🎶 How Sound Baths Deepen the Rest

As the body settles into stillness, the vibration and frequency of crystal bowls, gongs, and drums stimulate the vagus nerve and encourage the brain to move from busy beta waves into alpha and theta states — the same brainwaves associated with meditation, creativity, emotional processing, and deep relaxation.

When restorative yoga prepares the body, sound can travel more freely — without resistance or holding.

Together, they help:
• lower cortisol
• slow heart rate and breathing
• release chronic muscle tension
• support digestion and immune response
• create a sense of deep safety and ease

Regulation first. Healing second.

💧 Sound, Stillness & the Water in Our Bodies

The human body is about 60–70% water, and water is an excellent conductor of vibration.

In restorative poses, the body is still and open — allowing sound to move through the body rather than around it. This is why many people describe the experience as:
• sound “washing through” them
• emotional release without words
• sensations in places they didn’t know were holding tension

🌕 Why the Full Moon Amplifies the Experience

Biologically, the full moon is associated with changes in sleep, alertness, and emotional sensitivity for some people. Symbolically, it represents completion, release, and illumination.

Restorative yoga grounds the body.
Sound baths soothe the nervous system.
The full moon highlights what’s ready to be released.

You don’t have to “figure it out.”
The body already knows how to let go when it feels supported.

🌊🧘‍♀️🎶🌕

Restorative yoga creates the container.
Sound fills it with vibration and release.
The full moon simply shines a light on what’s ready to soften.

✨ Together, they help the body remember how to regulate itself — and from that place, healing naturally follows. ✨
