The "real" yoga happens here! 👇

Have you ever heard that phrase, "the pose begins when you want to leave it"?

I've always thought it was strange to say that discomfort was the point of the practice. It's not.

But, comfort isn't really the goal either.

Contentment is more the vibe we're going for.

Noticing if you're uncomfortable is important and then taking time to decide if the discomfort is immediately a bad thing. If it's uncomfortable because you're being challenged to grow, it might be worth sitting with rather than immediately seeking comfort or familiarity.

All that being said, at the end of every class I ask you to consider how you can bring what you've learned on the mat off the mat and into your life.

This is where the real yoga begins.

Your practice is teaching you to pay attention, to linger in the space between stimulus and response, to practice contentment, and to be mindful of how you're interacting with yourself and those around you.

Yoga helps you manage your child's meltdowns with compassion.
Yoga helps you take a beat before responding to that annoying email.
Yoga helps you detach from outcomes that don't go your way.
Yoga helps you stay calm in the midst of chaos.
Yoga helps you to stay present with the things that matter most in your life.

The real yoga happens off the mat.

It's Sunday, you know what that means... 👇

😱 The Sunday Scaries.

Instead of doomscrolling your way through pre-Monday anxiety, why not do something that actually helps your nervous system decompress?

Restorative yoga is, quite literally, an hour of laying around, getting super comfy using ALLL the props, and letting your body MELT the stress away.

This practice helps you shift out of chronic stress and into a place where you can recover so that your nervous system is better equipped for the week ahead.

We pile on stress in so many different ways through the week. Even things like our workouts are adding stress to the body. If we don't have adequate recovery time, that stress piles up and can create more problems like chronic pain, short temper, difficulty sleeping, & illness.

TONIGHT!!

Strength Flow starts tonight!!

A flow yoga practice set to popular music. This will be a faster paced class designed for strength, stability, and focus. Challenge yourself on the mat and then stay for a deep stretch after in yin.

We'll be flowing the the women of pop tonight! New playlist every week.

This class is about letting loose and enjoying yourself on the mat while trying out some fun sequences.

There's also a yin class right after this one if you want to follow your practice with a nice deep stretch!

The meaning of the word "yoga" is "union" - the purpose of the practice is to create union between body & mind and to connect you to something greater.

So, we practice.

We practice slowing down.
We practice resiliency.
We practice mindfulness.
We practice rest.

Over time, that practice becomes more refined making it easier for you to access slowing down, resiliency, mindfulness, and rest off the mat.

At the end of every yoga class, we take time to rest.

For some, this is the WHOLE point of yoga.

For others, savasana is an uncomfortable time where your thoughts are either racing or you fall asleep.

Conscious rest is not always easy in a culture that glorifies busyness & hard work.

But here's the thing: it's difficult to find connection to yourself when life is chaotic and you don't take time to rest.

Rest isn't lazy. It's necessary.

New Friday night classes alert!!

Get ready for the BEST way to cap off your week!

Hot summer Fridays at Joyful Yoga starting on June 20th!

5:45 pm - Strength Flow
A flow yoga practice set to popular music. This will be a faster paced class designed for strength, stability, and focus. Challenge yourself on the mat and then stay for a deep stretch after in yin.

7pm - Yin
This class is so popular, I've added another opportunity for you to join us to the schedule! Yin yoga is characterized by deep stretches, long holds, and gentle meditative guidance to help you unravel tightness in your body.

Join for one class or make it a Friday night out with friends and join us for both classes!
