How often should I be checking my Emergency Drenching Stations?

Emergency showers, eyewash stations, and drench hoses should be checked on a yearly and weekly basis. Checking the drenching station weekly will ensure that the equipment will be in perfect working condition when it is needed. 1. Identify the chemicals being used.
2. Keep a precise inventory pf all chemicals kept in the workplace.
3. Know where the SDS’s are located.
4. Ensure all chemicals are properly labelled with names, concentration, manufacturing date and information on the hazards.

The location of your emergency shower is a crucial part to ensuring your workers safety. Your emergency shower needs to be located no further away than a 10 second walk from the exposure site. The first 10 – 15 seconds after exposure are crucial to reducing serious injury. The emergency shower should have a clear unobstructed path that can be navigated under any circumstance, such as loss of vision. There should be no hazards near the shower that will put the user at risk.
