5 Healthy Habits That GIVE BACK (⚠️disclaimer: no dieting required 🙌)

Forget the all-or-nothing mindset, getting it perfect, or waiting until Monday to start over (yet again) —-

👍 TRUE health is about building habits that bring you joy, make you feel GOOD and that are easy to incorporate
👎 It shouldn’t feel like a grind and you certainly shouldn’t have to work “extra” hard to stay on track

Here are 5 game-changing HABITS to help you feel like the BEST version of yourself (aka energized, present, awesome & empowered) ⤵️

🧘 Amp up your mental fitness - your mind needs care & attention too. Journal your thoughts, start a gratitude practice, meditate or have a morning/nightly routine. Don’t forget to set boundaries to protect that precious “you” time!

🥗 Add, don’t restrict - approach meal planning from a place of abundance and think about what you add to your plate - colour, protein, fibre, omega-3’s. Nourishing meals that appeal to your taste buds AND your soul are the name of the game!

😴 Hit the recharge button - prioritize rest and relaxation. Your future self will be ever so grateful that you carved out time to settle down, cozy up and put energy back into your precious tank

💜 Move because it sparks joy - ditch the apps and replace it for movement that makes your heart smile - hiking, running, dance parties. Not sure where to start? Watch a kid play - they’re pros at having fun!

💦 Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate - water is literally life! Your body loves water so give it what it wants - add fruit/herbs or sip on herbal tea

Ditch food rules and find a sense of freedom in your everyday life with habits that work WITH and FOR you, not against you!

Which one of these habits will you start with?

Make 2025 your time to really SHIMMER 🎉

January is when diet culture thrives! The messaging is everywhere all year long, but it really ramp up when the clock strikes midnight

Ignore the noise and the messages and focus on YOU! Because guess what? All of those diets, plans and programs out there on the market have no idea what your unique preferences, goals and lifestyle are!

This year, swap the trendy resolutions for intentions, stress for simplicity and hustle for calm & compassion!

Here’s what’s IN & OUT for a year ahead that focuses on you - and YOU alone:

✅ IN FOR 2025

🎧 Listening To Your Body - honoring what your body needs, not following the rules of a diet or plan prescribed by sally the savy “nutritionist” or bob the bodybuilder
🥳 Counting Memories - focus on the world around you, not just what’s on your plate
💕 Loving Your Body For What It Can Do (Not How it Looks) - switch appearance/form for function and watch your self-love soar
🙅‍♀️ Healthy Boundaries - say no when it’s going to drain you and yes when it’s going to light you up
💃 Moving For Joy & Play: exercise should spark joy instead of be something that you “should” do
🪜 Baby Steps - we don’t need to be perfect all the time. Allow for flexibility and focus on the wins, big and small. Above all, keep going!
🌟 Gradual Progress - slow and steady progress will pave the way for changes that last!

❌ OUT FOR 2025

🚫 Listening To Wellness Influencers & Fear-Based Eating - food is fuel, not something to be afraid of
🚫 Counting Calories & Macros - we’re not robots!
🚫 Comparing Yourself to What You See on Social Media - comparison is the thief of joy
🚫 Overdoing It & Burnout - conserve your energy folks
🚫 Movement As A Chore - it shouldn’t be used as punishment or become so regimented that it takes the fun right out of it
🚫 Perfection - serves as a breeding ground for guilt and shame
🚫 Quick Fixes & Fad Diets - they don’t work!

None of the above matters in this great big world 🌍

❌ The number on the scale does NOT matter - your weight is not a direct measure of your health (or your worth)

❌ Your dress size does NOT matter - societal beauty standards are not your standards. Buy clothes to fit you, not the other way around ❤️

❌ What someone else looks like does NOT matter - stop comparing yourself to other people. Every-Body is different and you don’t know their story!

❌ Other people’s opinions do NOT matter - your body, your business. Scream a loud no to people that have the audacity to make any comments about your body (or your food choices!)

❌ How much weight you lose (or intend to lose) before a wedding or class reunion does NOT matter - honestly, people are just going to be happy to see YOU. Instead of concentrating on how you look, shift the focus to having fun and creating memories with friends and loved ones

Stop playing the numbers, comparison and body checking game and start loving on yourself, just the way you are ❤️🫶

Which one of the above resonates most with you?

🙋‍♀️ I’ll start first in the comments below👇

Got hunger pangs?

Are the little voices in your head setting the stage for a battleground about whether or not “it’s time” to eat?

Guess what? Your body is biologically designed to eat REGULARLY throughout the day! And the only way it’s going to tell you is by sending you signals so that you seek out food.

When our body needs another dose of fuel ⛽️, it drives up the hunger hormone (ghrelin) and decreases the fullness hormone (leptin). It also increases a hormone known as neuropeptide Y, which causes your body to seek our carbohydrates (our main source of energy!). Just thought I’d toss that in there to remind you that your body needs carbs 😉

Food is calories. Food is energy. Food is life. Food helps us breathe, think, walk and talk.

Food is also: love, connection, community and enjoyment!

Here’s a few TRUTH-laden things to tell yourself the next time hunger strikes. Because it’s not a matter of if, but WHEN!

Do you ever find yourself eating dinner in front of the TV or scarfing down your lunch while you’re typing away on the computer?

⭐️ If the answer is YES, you may be engaging in DISTRACTED EATING
➡️ But you’re not alone! In our fast-paced era, we’ve become pros at multitasking. Meetings, errands, extra-curricular activities - oh my! It’s no wonder we don’t have time to stop and breathe (let alone eat!) amongst the chaos

⭐️ Even without being pressed for time, many people have gotten into the routine of eating while distracted. ➡️ It can easily become a habit to sit in front of the TV or scroll social media with a snack in hand

🚫BEWARE: Distracted eating can lead to overeating by way of the following:
• Mindless Consumption 🧠 - eating on autopilot can cause you to lose track of portion sizes. Before you know it, that whole bag of chips, pretzels or popcorn is gone, gone, gone!
• Reduced Sensory Enjoyment 😋 - if you’re not present to enjoy your food in all its glory, you never reach the point of satisfaction. So, you compensate by eating more in hopes of finding that joy
• Delayed Fullness Signals ⛽️ - when you’re distracted by another external stimulus, you’re not able to listen to your internal fullness cues. Since your body doesn’t register that it’s full, you keep eating!

‼️Overeating can lead to feelings of guilt and shame, which may increase your desire to start a diet!

📛Please don’t diet - they are NOT sustainable and will harm (not help) your long-term relationship with food

👆See post for tips on how to avoid distracted eating to minimize overeating and help you feel in control around food!

💥Diet culture can STILL impact our relationship with food, even if we think we’ve left our diet mentality behind. Seriously!! That’s how sneaky diet culture is!

📢 The messages and food “rules” that we learned early on (and even now!) are ingrained into us and can be tough to shake!

• “Carbs make you fat”
• “A moment on the lips, forever on your hips”
• “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”
• “Clean” eating is the best way to stay healthy
• Juice cleanses will detox your liver
• “Cheat” days or weekends to allow yourself to indulge
• Eating at certain times of the day
• “Order the salad instead fries” at restaurants

If you find yourself caught in some of the thought patterns/practices mentioned in the post and list above, you might be unknowingly holding onto sneaky forms of dieting that are preventing you from truly achieving food freedom. These behaviours reinforce a restrictive mentality that can lead you to become stuck in the diet-binge cycle.

SHIFT YOUR MINDSET:
✅ FULLY let go of restriction
✅ Adopt a more intuitive approach to eating and let go of “rules” that dictate when, what and how much to eat
✅ Tune in and trust your body’s internal cues

⭐️ Doing so will allow you to have a life-long healthy relationship with food, without looking back!
