During the yoga class I taught online this morning I asked students to reflect on the meaning of this National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. We focused on balance poses and repeated each pose and move seven times to honour the Seven Generation Principle. This Indigenous Concept involves considering in your words, work and actions the seven generations coming after you, and to remember and respect the seven generations who came before you.

I am currently teaching Live-streamed yoga classes for Mountain Home Yoga. You can register and join the class from anywhere. On Saturdays, I teach Yin Yang, and on Mondays, Happy Hips & Hamstrings, both run from 9:00-10:00 am Mountain Time. I sometimes sub for other classes, like I did yesterday morning for Kimber who usually teaches Mindful Flow Yoga on Fridays at 9:00 am Mountain Time, or Stephen Raaflaub, who teaches Sunrise Yoga every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 8:00 am Mountain Time, and Yin Yoga & Meditation on Sunday mornings, usually at 9:00 am Mountain Time. I'm teaching the Monday morning Happy Hips and Hamstrings class through the Mountain Home Yoga Studio as a live-streamed class from my home near Invermere on January 16 & 23. Kelly taught the January 9th class so I could spend a few days in Calgary helping a friend celebrate his 96th birthday. She will be doing the class again on January 30th when I am cross-country skiing in the Lake Louise area. Then I will be back for the classes on Feb. 6, 13 & 20.

After the hectic Christmas period, you need to be kind to your mind, body, and spirit. In this 50-minute live-streamed class, you will learn breathing techniques and basic yoga poses from the ground up, taking the time you need to explore and feel. We will do a guided meditation used to promote feeling calm, positive, and healthy. You will practice gentle movement routines to improve the mobility of your neck, shoulders, back, hips, and legs, and build inner strength gradually. You will have the time and space to rest, relax, and heal.
For this class, you need no previous yoga experience. However, you will need a yoga mat. It would be helpful for you to have a ball you can use for massage. Drier balls work fine. You might also want to use two firm foam yoga blocks. Please have something that you can sit on comfortably, i.e., a foam block, a pillow, or even a firm chair.
