As the last week of hockey comes in swiftly I can't help but reminisce about the last 10 years of this kids life.
We dressed him up and threw him on the ice not knowing how to skate at the age of 7. I said...he's either going to love it....or he's going to hate it.
10 years later I am about to watch his last weekend ever hitting the ice in a minor hockey jersey.
If I am being honest its completely heartbreaking.
To watch my first born who saved my life from a much different path finish his last year of hockey.
The money, the hours spent at cold rinks, the hard after game talks, the highs from winning, ALL OF IT...over in just under a week.
Ouffff.....
Tough pill to swallow when we thought we had all the time in the world. I'll tell ya something, those 10 years went by so slow yet so quickly, if that makes ANY sense at all.
Hockey has built character, resilience, how to loose, how to win, how to work well with others as a TEAM...it's not about making it to the O...its about all the life lessons it has taught you along the way.
If you're a hockey parent...take a damn moment...literally....soak it in...watch it for what it is, and not for where the heck you think your kid is going. Because when reality sets in, and beer league is here...you'll wish you did more soaking in and less getting mad at the coaches, refs, other parents or kids.
For the love of the game.....
All because you gave your kid a damn hockey stick!!!!
Best of luck to you "Zee", my favorite hockey player.
