ORANGE SHIRT FUNDRAISER
Over the past three years, we have made donations to Kanien’kehá:ka cultural and/or language programs. The donations are based off of a percentage of our orange t-shirt sales.
So far we have made donations to:
•(2024) Akwesasne Freedom School - $632
•(2023) Karihwanó:ron School - $340
•(2002) Iakwahwatsiratátie Language Nest - $240
This year, we want to do something a little different.
We will be making our donation to the Tyendinaga Traditional Powwow (Mohawk Territory located in Ontario).
We chose this specific powwow for several reasons, the first being that they are in debt (see photos for an explanation; the weather hasn’t been very kind to many this summer).
The second reason is because this year, we got to see two of our favourite young Kanien’kehá:ka girls dance in their first powwow dance competitions and the positive impact it had on their self-esteem.
So far the donation is at around $700 CAD. If we can get enough orders, we would like to also sponsor two dances for next year’s powwow. Junior Girls Fancy Shawl and Junior Girls Smoke Dance.
To place an order, please see the posters.
Deadline is September 20th.
