Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Association

Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Association KTRA offers therapeutic riding for children and adults with a wide range of disabilities.

KTRA's riding lessons benefits the riders by using the motivating medium of horse care and riding we draw an individual’s attention to their strengths, successes and most importantly build self-esteem. Through horse care and riding we will teach those social and behavior skills necessary to function and succeed in a social world. It is these skills that are vital to self-esteem and ultimately determine the place a person fills in this society.

We’ve just received news that the two TRU practicum students we were counting on for Tuesdays and Wednesdays will no longer be joining us this session. This leaves us very short on leaders and side-walkers, and with session starting next week, we are in urgent need of your support.

If you are able, please consider signing up to volunteering with us.

Here are the current shifts needing coverage:

Tuesdays 9:15am-12pm (sidewalking and leading)
Tuesdays 12pm-4pm (leading)
Wednesdays 12:45pm-3pm (sidewalking and leading)

Your help is what makes our program possible, and we are so grateful for any extra time you can give to ensure riders don’t miss out on their lessons.

Looking for the right person to share a very special mare from the KTRA herd.

April, a 2010 warmblood mare, is available for lease on Saturdays and/or Sundays. She is a personable, kind partner who thrives on connection and one-on-one attention.

She goes best when ridden correctly in a frame and appreciates a rider who knows how to bring out her best. While she can be a little “lookie” at times, her spook is very rideable and she remains honest and willing.

This lease is best suited for a knowledgeable, confident rider who can ride her properly and continue her program.

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone looking for a fun, rewarding partnership with access to an indoor arena.

If you are interested in leasing April please email Ashley at asudds@ktra.ca for more details.

Rusty is available for part-lease at Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Association.

He is a 2015 grade gelding who thrives with a confident, knowledgeable rider. Rusty is sensitive and requires someone who can continue his training program—working on bending and suppleness—with a firm but fair approach.

Rusty is in KTRA’s therapeutic program, so he is unavailable Mondays–Thursdays. His lease partner will have access to him outside of program hours as well as use of an indoor arena.

We are looking for someone who can provide Rusty with consistent one-on-one attention and bring out his best. This is a great opportunity for an experienced rider interested in developing a partnership with a thoughtful, responsive gelding.

If you are interested in leasing Rusty please contact Ashley for more details at asudds@ktra.ca
