Cooking is more than just a daily chore, itâs independence, connection, and joy. After an injury or health change, OTs help you return to meaningful activities like preparing meals.
We do this by teaching energy conservation strategies, recommending adaptive kitchen tools, setting up safer environments, and breaking tasks into achievable steps. With the right support, the kitchen can feel welcoming and empowering again.

Weâve always believed in individual growth. Our 1996 logo used a leaf to signify this, as our co-founders, Hazel, an administrator, and Dawn, a social worker, worked together to help people find work through assessment (knowing more about themselves), counselling (acquiring the interpersonal skills for job search and job retention) and referral services (making sure people had the appropriate supports, based on assessments). This program was funded by the provincial government, and in the first week, we had over 1,200 referrals! Hazel sat on the floor in our office answering the phone. We were soon dubbed the âbottleneckâ and we had to grow very quickly to serve all the people who needed help.
At that time, like now, just having a great resume and cover letter wasnât good enough. Many people who needed to look for work didnât have the basic employability skills to be competitive in job search such as having trouble getting places on time; not having the skills needed; struggles with reading, writing and arithmetic; or living with physical challenges to job search.
In 2005 we expanded to also provide rehabilitation services to people who were injured in vehicle or workplace accidents. We purchased an occupational therapy company and expanded it to also include counselling and kinesiology services. Clients can meet in our office or gym in our downtown Kamloops clinic, and we travel to provide services in clientsâ homes, work places or communities throughout the BC Interior.
The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic ushered in our âvirtual era.â We have now converted all of our services to telehealth, using a variety of encrypted (confidential) platforms. As return to ânormalâ (what is that, anyway?) we will continue to work with clients virtually, in addition to resuming face to face services.
We look forward to the coming years when we can continue to help our clients recover, from hospital discharge through to return to work, wherever they might be, from wherever we might be. Be safe!
