This weekend, BCRS President Dr. Brenda Farnquist and CEO Amy Smith attended the CAMRT-BC Summit in Burnaby, an excellent opportunity to connect with and support MRTs from across the province.

Dr. Farnquist opened the conference with a warm welcome, and Amy Smith shared remarks at the evening awards reception. Throughout the weekend, we strengthened relationships with our industry partners, held a productive lunch meeting with Kerri Smith from the PMIO, and had insightful discussions with new CAMRT CEO, Kelly Masotti about the future of medical imaging.

On October 6, 2025 BCRS President Dr Brenda Farnquist, BCRS President- Elect Dr. Wan Wan Yap and BCRS CEO Amy Smith had an in-person meeting with Assistant Deputy Minister Ian Rongve in Victoria, BC.

During the meeting, we reinforced our role as a solution provider, working collaboratively with the Ministry to identify strategies that optimize existing resources and improve system efficiency.

The meeting was highly productive, with clear next steps established including an invitation from Dr. Rongve to continue regular in-person meetings.

The Environmental Sustainability in Radiology playbook is intended for all medical imaging professionals and teams in order to:

• Discuss greenhouse gas emissions and waste arising from medical imaging.

• Define and describe mitigation and adaption opportunities in radiology in Canada.

• Explore strategies for low carbon, high quality medical imaging with estimated impacts.

Inspired by the Canadian Association of Radiologists’ Statement on Environmental Sustainability, this guide supports a healthier planet—and a more resilient healthcare system.

“The demand [for medical imaging] is outweighing what we can actually perform,” Dr. Farnquist said.
