Today we discussed the urgent radiologist workforce shortage in BC, including barriers faced by internationally trained specialists, licensing and credentialing delays, and the need for more streamlined pathways to practice already used in other provinces.
We appreciate MLA Dhir’s engagement and look forward to continuing the conversation on solutions to improve patient access to timely medical imaging care across BC.

Today, Dr. Vamshi Kotha presented to the BC Ministry of Health on the value of Interventional Radiology and the current gaps putting patients at risk.

Interventional Radiology (IR) is a proven, cost-effective, and life-saving clinical service. With targeted investment, British Columbia can stabilize IR capacity, protect patients, reduce waitlists, and improve access to care across the province.

IR is not optional healthcare. It is essential, minimally invasive care that reduces hospital stays, improves patient outcomes, and supports a more sustainable healthcare system for British Columbians.

BCRS was pleased to host Yongmei Chen, Executive Director of Surgical and Medical Imaging, for a half-day visit at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC.

Joined by Dr. Vamshi Kotha, Dr. Wan Wan Yap, and Amy Smith, the visit included a tour of the medical imaging department and interventional radiology suite. We also had focused discussions on the critical role of interventional radiology and practical, system-level solutions to the growing medical imaging challenges in British Columbia.

We are grateful for her time and for the strong, collaborative relationship between BCRS and the Ministry of Health.
