F*ck the haters, you keep working on you without caring about what others think.

30 years from now, they’re going to be the ones breaking a hip when they fall, or can’t get up because they cared more about being a skinny fragile human than putting on muscle and building a strong body.

I’d rather be heavier and stacked with muscle to carry my husband through a burning building than be the helpless smallest version of myself who has a hard time carrying my suitcase up a flight of stairs.

Made it through my first workout post surgery 💪

I probably could have gone last week, but I did not feel confident enough to walk 10 minutes to my gym since I’m not cleared to drive yet.

Even this morning, I was trying to negotiate with myself. What if my leg gets too tired to get me home? Should we just try tomorrow? Do we wait until next week?

But after spending lots of time on my feet over the weekend, I knew I had the capacity to do it. It was just fighting off the ‘what if’s’.

And I’m so happy that I said f*** it. Because really, if I got too tired to walk home, I could call a cab or a friend. I could take some time a rest up before walking home. And it’s not like I was going in there to do a lower body day.

& honestly looking forward to some upper body DOMS this week 😂

Even if you are working towards fat loss, you still need structure and intensity in your workouts. Because having more muscle mass is going to help drive fat loss.

Having no progression in your programming, or constantly changing things up isn’t going to “confuse your muscles” like we used to think. It’s actually going to make progress harder, especially for building muscle because too much variety week to week makes it harder for you to progressively overload movements.

If you are rehabbing an injury, you can’t just be going through your exercises with ease. You need to have some challenge to it in order to drive adaptation.

And ladies, if you’re biggest fear of lifting weights is because you don’t want to get “bulky” I can assure you that even bumping up your intensity and lifting heavy isn’t going to get you there in 3 months. That’s a long journey on its own.

1 week post op ACL Reconstruction update 💪

Day 2: the absolute WORST. Nobody warned me how bad it would be when the nerve block wore off. Pain meds or ice didn’t even scratch the surface of pain. This day was full of regret and questioning why I thought this was a good idea. Full meltdown initiated by the end of the day.

Day 3: Slept in my bed after my meltdown and woke up feeling a thousand times better.

Day 4: First day at home by myself, had a couple visitors, graduated to one crutch, and finally had the energy to wash my hair my hair in the sink.

Day 5: Wrap came off and could hobble around with no crutch. It was a good day. Longer between pain meds!

Day 6: Had my first outing in the evening! Cabin fever was getting bad with how beautiful it’s been outside. Spent most of the day without using a crutch. Starting doing more in terms of exercises in a day. I’m very grateful for the profession I have and having the expertise and knowledge to start my rehab at home.

Now finally at day 7! Goal is to continue working on getting my extension back and cleaning up my walking as much as I can. Quad engagement is already doing good which I’m extremely happy with.

Thanks for following along! ♥️

Why would you want to go back to the body of a girl whose frontal lobe isn’t fully developed?

You already know that story, you already know how that plays out. So why are you out here trying to relive the past when you can be bursting into a better version of yourself?

When someone tells me they have a goal of weight X amount of pounds but the last time they weighed that they hadn’t even finished puberty, it makes me sad to see that someone already so strong and powerful is holding onto that younger version of themselves.

Instead of seeing the real potential that they have right now, looking back at them.

It’s time to let go of 16 year old you say ‘see you later’ 👋🏻

Things I won’t be doing when getting back into the gym after recovery:

1. Telling myself I’m “starting over” just because I missed a week or two
2. Comparing myself to others or myself before surgery/injury
3. Reducing my food intake because my activity output is lower
4. Pushing too hard in my workouts and adding a bunch of cardio (my body is still healing and I need to respect that)
5. Being hard on myself for not being able to do something that I used to do.

Regardless of the reason for time off from the gym, I know how common it is for these thoughts to go through someone’s mind. And it puts a lot of unnecessary pressure on yourself.

If you need a reminder to be kinder to yourself when getting back into a routine, save this post so you can come back to it.

Day 1 Post Op ACLR (Anterior Cruciate Ligamet Reconstruction)

Dear Diary,

It’s been so beautiful outside and I can’t get up my stairs right now to enjoy the sunshine 🥲

Started off the day feeling decent, pain was managed well and then the nerve block wore off and the pain hit hard. I’ve honestly never experienced pain like this before so this is new.

The dry brush is a life saver for scratching my foot. This is the fanciest thing I have to show you.

My husband has been the absolute best in home nurse. I think I should get him a nurses outfit 👨‍⚕️

You’re not going to build a house on a foundation of sticks and expect it to survive an earthquake.

So why are we skipping out on basics and jumping to complicated AF movements you saw on Instagram?!

I’ve spent years and years going to the gym, and my programming phase will always have foundational movements in there.

Basics can be fun. Basics allow you to be more successful at more complicated movements because you already have a solid foundation.

When I program for my clients it’s very intentional. I’m considering their goals, how they move, where they’re struggling. It’s not ‘cookie cutter’. But there will be consistency in the basics.

Now, summer is just around the corner and I know that all of you will have fun seasonal activities and sports to participate in.
So let’s stop the “I should have started this sooner” and start the summer with “I’m ready to be a beast”

Applications are open in the link in my bio 🏝️💪
