Philippa Coxon—Kamloops Doula pregnancy holistic health services for labour and birth support.Reviews and website can be found on Doula Match under Philippa Coxon .www.bystillwatersdoula.com I believe that the birth experience is one the birthing person will remember all their life .My goal as a doula is to facilitate a positive, empowering safe birth experience for the person and their baby. I operate on a sliding scale as I would love to see every birthing person have a doula with them no matter their finances. I am approved as a volunteer doula through Doula Services Association of BChttps://www.bcdoulas.org/referral.html
I am also approved as a doula for the Doulas for Aboriginal Families Grant Program. The goal of this program is to increase healthy birth outcomes for Indigenous families by removing the cost barrier to accessing doula services.

NewBaby101 p107: "Babies hunger for sensory input - touch, pressure, movement, scents, sounds and warmth of skin and of course suckling associated with feeding, all of which are essential for healthy neuronal (brain) development. Their most important source of sensory experience is you - their caregiver. Using a baby carrier provides closeness and comfort as needed, but also physical movement and a change of view of their little world, which can be especially helpful when baby is unsettled. These times of exploration and experience are very important for baby's understanding of their surroundings and their security within it, assisting their adjustment to the rhythms of their home environment." NewBaby101 - A Midwife's Guide for New Parents" provides guidance and support for parents learning to understand their new baby's needs and behaviours. eBook $9.95 www.NewBaby101.com.au Amazon & BookBaby.

Reminder, you can ALWAYS ask questions.

Unlike the ridiculous legal fight of a Florida woman, most facilities will accept your autonomy - even if there's some pushback.

Discussion and respect is how we have safe birth without unnecessary trauma. Doctors, midwives, nurses who practice with respect will have these conversations with you to help you make informed decisions and understand if there's a true medical concern.

What questions did you ask in labor?

Everyone talks about baby's bottom care, hygiene and diet, but who is talking about mom's? Us, the doulas 😉 We're the weird friend at the baby shower gifting stool softener and organic cotton pads because we know you'll thank us later 😁

Hormone fluctuations, leaking milk, discharge, sweat, and that dreaded first postpartum p**p - these are the items to help!

Our must have postpartum items for the postpartum parent:

✨️ Witch Hazel/hemorrhoid pads (bonus, keep them cold, it'll feel even better!) These work for swelling not just hemorrhoids
✨️ Liquid witch hazel can be added to regular pads if you're wanting to avoid bulk during outings
✨️ 100% organic pads. Your postpartum skin is SENSITIVE!
✨️ Shower wipes - that postpartum sweat is no joke and you can't easily shower 3xs a day to keep up
✨️ Deodorant wipes - perfect for the diaper bag and unlike deodorant, it won't melt in your bag
✨️ Dry shampoo - see also hormone shifts and sweating
✨️ Nursing pads to keep your bra from getting moist and irritating sensitive skin
✨️ Water, water, water!! A straw cup is everything. Stay hydrated helps with healing, sweating, nursing, AND those dreaded first postpartum p**ps
✨️ ALLLLL the fresh produce, again, that p**p
✨️ Stool softeners, if you've had any pain meds, c-section, etc., these are sooo helpful
✨️ Peri bottle - rinse and dab, don't wipe that sensitive skin (or stitches) hard!
✨️ A robe - layer on, layer off, while navigating temperature fluctuations. Yay hormones!
✨️ Adult diapers - a pack of diapers for baby and a pack for you! Clutch in those first few days, and especially at night. Cut down on worrying about leaking through a pad
✨️ Dermoplast - to help with perineal pain

Want to be THE best gifter at the shower? Your recognition might have to wait, but you'll get ALL the praise later. Use these items to make a postpartum survival gift bag!
