Position Summary
A New Tomorrow supports both adult and youth divisions of practice to deliver exceptional treatment services to individuals recovering from substance misuse with an interdisciplinary team dedicated to transforming lives.
Reporting to the Manager of Clinical Services, the Addiction Counsellor, is responsible for providing individual counselling, group therapy facilitation, and psychoeducational groups using various applied treatment modalities to address addiction and mental health challenges. This position is responsible for the duties listed below:
Clinical Care
Lead for crisis management, su***de risk assessment, threat assessment and conflict resolution.
Provide family therapy in support of client’s recovery using a variety of clinical modalities.
Incorporate First Nations culture and tradition into treatment programming through consultation with Indigenous Liaison and Indigenous partners.
Participate in program development, support development and implementation of Care Plan, attend weekly conferences to review and re-evaluate as necessary.
Communicate and uphold client care plans, Policies and Procedures, and daily routines.
Maintain client records and detailed client documentation, including daily contact logs, Care Plans, Transition Plan and Discharge Summary in accordance with standards.
Encourage clients to fully participate in all aspects of programming including recreational and cultural opportunities.
Participate in client centered team meetings throughout all phases of treatment including intake and discharge.
Foster collaborative service delivery among clients and staff while providing clinical direction and support to the broader team.
Build and maintain community partnerships collaborating to ensure wrap around services for clients.
Promote a client centered, strength based, trauma informed holistic approach to treatment.
Ensure commitment to confidentiality is maintained utilizing the guidelines of the Personal Information Act of BC and governing body regulations.
Ensure a safe environment by identifying health & safety concerns both inside and outside the residences and reporting to the Facilities Coordinator in a timely manner.
Engage in policy and procedure development, adherence, and contribute recommendations to strengthen policies and staffing.
Collaborate with leadership to ensure quality and seamless program delivery in the best interests of clients.
Other duties as assigned.
Supervision & Reporting
Integrate and evaluate pertinent data from multiple sources and problem solve/make decisions.
Provide concise client progress notes from a clinical perspective.
Take part in clinical supervision with an open mind and willingness to participate freely.
Participate in annual performance review including development of professional goals accepting constructive criticism in spirit of performance improvement.
Attend regular meetings identifying requirements, areas of success, areas of need/improvement, and trends impacting service delivery.
Maintain an open mind to coaching and mentoring.
Take part in training and opportunity for skill development and enhancement.
Team Building
Build trust, open communication, innovation and creative strategies for the team in support of delivering exceptional treatment services.
Communicate accomplishments and successes, ongoing issues and develop resolutions to strengthen service delivery.
Liaise with co-workers in support of a team approach to service delivery promoting treatment direction.
Engage in team building opportunity to promote opportunities for enhancement of workplace culture.
Advocate for and support co-workers and clients.
Take part in problem solving, conflict resolution and collaboration with co-workers and clients.
Assist with reflection, debriefing, and processing distressing thoughts and vicarious trauma.
Minimum Skills and Qualifications
Master’s degree in Social Work, Clinical Counselling or related discipline
Active registration & designation in good standing with valid practicing license with appropriate governing / registration body
Demonstrate competencies as defined by the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction
Experience working with clients in addiction, mental health and recovery
Excellent administrative, time management, communication, and organizational skills
Current Class 5 Driver’s License
Current First Aid & CPR with AED certification
Naloxone Administration certification
WHIMS certification
Addictions Care and Treatment Online certification
Self-motivated and capacity to work independently
Competent with Microsoft Office
Criminal Record Check prior to commencement of employment
Other training as required
