Does this image look familiar to you? It's the dreaded air puff test, or more technically speaking the non-contact tonometer (NCT). What is this test for, you may ask? Well, it's the doctor's way of checking the pressure inside your eyes. The puff of air applies pressure to the eye with a known force to measure the eye's resistance. Abnormal pressures can be indicative of glaucoma (a serious threat to vision), so it's important to have this test done at every eye exam. At Iris, we perform all necessary screenings to provide our patients with the gold standard of care every time. Call us today to schedule your next comprehensive eye exam! We'd love to see you!

Do you work on a computer for hours a day? Do your eyes feel itchy, tired, and dry? You may be suffering from computer vision syndrome. Here are some simple things you can do to help reduce your eye strain while working on the computer:

1) Rest your eyes for every 15 minutes after every 2 hours of computer use (we suggest setting a timer on your phone or computer to help you remember)
2) Adjust your screen and workspace to reduce glare (closing the blinds, moving your screen out of the sun's light, and getting better lighting are all things that can help)
3) Blink more often (we blink less when looking on our computer, so remember to blink)
4) Use lubricating eye drops (preservative free drops work better, so check the labels before you purchase)
5) Get your eyes checked annually by an optometrist (you may need to increase your prescription if you have glasses, or get glasses for the first time; your optometrist can help you find solutions for you)

Computer vision syndrome sounds a lot scarier than it needs to be. These simple tips will help make your eyes happier as you work on your screens.
