I was reading with my coffee the other morning and came across a study done on 131 horses to estimate the agreement between Equine Veterinarian practitioners performing Lameness Evaluations in horses.

When dealing with a Grade 1.5 or lower lameness, guess what percentage of Veterinarians agreed on WHETHER the horse was lame, and WHICH LIMB was the worst after a full lameness evaluation?

51.6% 😳

Now I say this only to create awareness of how tricky subtle lameness can be.

And if you’re running Barrel Horses, you know the little things matter… A lot!

These horses are built like a Ferrari 🏎️, not your old farm truck🛻

So it makes sense being that we’re often times dealing with a grade 2 lameness or lower that figuring out exactly what’s going on can be incredibly difficult.

This is why what you notice as the Rider and owner that sees the horse every day makes a huge difference!

Especially if you’re able to explain what you’re noticing in a way that means something to your Horse’s Veterinarian.

Now don’t get me wrong, I think you should still absolutely get help even if you don’t know what to say.
