YOU DON’T START WITH THE TREATMENT | If you’re picking the treatment first, you’re working backwards. Depending on the case and the patient’s facial anatomy, a similar concern can come from a few different things, and they’re not all treated the same way. For instance, someone set on something as straightforward and common as lip filler might come in thinking that’s what they want. But once we talk through what feels “off” and actually assess their anatomy, maybe we learn it’s not a volume issue and the upper lip is being pulled under by muscle movement. In that case, it comes down to matching the treatment to both the cause and the result they’re after. A lip flip—done with a completely different product—might get them closer to what they want by letting more of the lip show, instead of adding volume where it’s not needed.

Fun fact: a lot of my naturopathic patients don’t actually live anywhere near me. Every Tuesday, I work with people all across BC virtually, which makes things a lot easier if you’re outside Kamloops... or just juggling a busy schedule. The care itself doesn’t change. We still talk through what’s been going on, look for root causes, and build a plan that fits your life. And if testing is needed, you can get it done close to home. But virtual visits make naturopathic support more accessible.

THE RESULTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES | First time lip filler for this patient. Her main concern was a thinner upper lip and wanting better balance between the top and bottom. What you’re seeing is structural support placed strategically in the upper lip to improve proportion and shape. We used half a syringe of Revanesse® Kiss+, which is often enough for first-time patients when the goal is balance rather than obvious volume. More can always be added later. Building gradually tends to look more natural and age better than trying to do everything in one visit.

I DON'T DO DUCK LIPS | People end up with ducky, fake looking lips because they've had too much filler too fast. Adding more might create faster change, but it also increases the risk of migration, heaviness, and that obvious “overfilled” look. I don't want anyone's lips to look inflated. Filler shouldn’t enter the room before you do. That's why I always start conservatively and build gradually if more is needed. You can always add more later. Patience and restraint will always age better than aggressive treatment.

LIP FILLER SWELLING | Immediately after treatment, lips are swollen. Hyaluronic acid attracts water, and lip tissue can hold that fluid for several days. Some patients worry the fullness will last forever. Others prefer the initial volume and consider adding more before it settles. Wherever you land on that spectrum, patience is important. Swelling usually peaks in the first 24–48 hours, improves significantly by days 3–5, and can take up to 10–14 days to fully settle. Final results shouldn’t be assessed until the two-week mark. For this patient, we used a half syringe (0.6 mL) of Revanesse® Kiss™ as part of her routine annual maintenance treatment to maintain balance and structure.
