๐งกNational Day for Truth and Reconciliation September 30, 2025 ๐ถ
September 30th honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Between 1867 and 1996, Canada had 140 Federally ran residential schools.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission ran from 2008 to 2015. The Commission released its final report detailing 94 calls to action. The 2019 Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, developed in collaboration with Indigenous communities, serves as the framework for implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
The province of B.C. is dedicated to advancing Indigenous leadership, governance, self-determination and ensuring that Indigenous Peoples can thrive in the province. On March 30th, 2022, B.C. released its Declaration Act Action Plan. The plan includes collectively identified goals and outcomes that form the long-term vision for implementing the UN Declaration in B.C.
