Do you ever feel like you've been holding onto something for so long, even though you know it's not good for you? Don't worry, it's biological! We need to learn how to let go of what is no longer serving us so we can open ourselves to new possibilities and inner strength. As Ajahn Chah wisely said, ""If you let go a little, you find peace. If you let go a lot, you will find a lot of peace. If you let go absolutely, you find absolute peace and tranquillity. Embrace the art of letting go and embrace the freedom it brings! Here's how!

Worried about daylight savings getting you all mixed up?🥱

Here are some tips for adjusting to new sleep patterns and dealing with fatigue:
⏰Create a calming bedtime routine: Listen to calming music, dim the lights, take a bath, do nighttime yoga, and avoid screentime for at least an hour before bed.
⏰Optimize your sleep environment: Keep your room cool, dark and quiet.
⏰Manage light exposure: Get daylight in the morning and avoid bright lights in the evening to regulate your circadian rhythm.
⏰Exercise: Engage in physical activity most days of the week, but avoid strenuous workouts close to bedtime.

If you're feeling extra sleepy when the time shift hits, just do your best—you're not alone! We're right there with you.🤝

Our newest blog post is live 💛

Our counselling team launched a blog on the website website—a space where we’ll share therapist-informed insights, practical mental health tools, and gentle reflections to support your wellbeing.

Our second post is now live and explores understanding depression and Seasonal Affective Disorder.

"This is the time of year when we hear a lot of talk about the winter blues, sadness, and depression. While it’s common to feel down or sad from time to time, sometimes the sadness begins to intensify and doesn’t seem to lift the way we thought it would."

Are you wondering what you should bring to your next therapy session?🤷

Here are some things that clients have found beneficial to have at their appointments.

📔Notebook: We encourage you to bring a notebook or journal to the session. Whether thoughts or feelings come up prior to the session or during the session, it can sometimes be beneficial to write down these thoughts to either discuss at the next session or reflect on post-session.

💧A water bottle or warm drink: Ever heard of a comfort water bottle? We sure have our favourite bottles we like to have with us. We welcome anything that will help you feel comfortable.

👕Comfy clothes: Dress however you like! Whatever makes you most comfortable, we support you.

📵Limit distractions: Phones and smartwatches can be distracting during sessions so we recommend turning them off or setting them on do not disturb prior to the session.

We can't wait to welcome you in!💛

Did you know that your attachment style—formed in early childhood—can influence how you connect with romantic partners, friends, and even colleagues?🤯

💛 Secure: Feels safe in relationships, communicates openly, and trusts easily. Think of Ben Wyatt and Leslie Knope's relationship in Parks and Recreation.👛
💛 Anxious: Craves closeness but fears abandonment, often seeking reassurance. Who else thought of Donkey from Shreck when they read this one?🙋
💛 Avoidant: Values independence, struggles with emotional intimacy. Zooey Deschanel's character, Summer in 500 Days of Summer depicts an avoidant attachment style.☀
💛 Fearful-Avoidant: A mix of anxious and avoidant, often feeling uncomfortable with closeness, avoiding rejection, but values independence. Rue from Euphoria depicts a character that has a fearful-avoidant attachment style.✨

Your attachment style isn’t set in stone! Through therapy and support from skilled professionals, individuals can gain self-awareness, understand their attachment patterns, and develop tools for growth. With compassionate guidance, they can learn to manage emotions, communicate more effectively, and build stronger trust in relationships.

To learn more about your attachment style, try reflecting on the following questions:
☀In conflict, do I tend to chase answers or avoid the situation?
☀If I feel insecure during conflict, what may I be holding onto from the past that makes me feel this way?
☀How did adults in my life when I was growing up behave in moments of stress, conflict or distance?

Reach out if you think this is a topic you would like to explore more.💛

February is here—the month that tends to circulate around themes of love. But love isn't just about romance; it's also about how we nurture ourselves and our relationships.

You've probably heard, 'You need to love yourself before you can love others'—but is that really true? 🤔

This idea overlooks how we actually develop love and connection. 💞 As children, we don’t start with perfect self-love; we learn about relationships through care, support, and shared experiences.

Instead of striving for flawless self-love, focusing on self-respect and self-compassion allows us to build deeper, healthier connections. ❤️‍

Our first post is live and explores managing anxiety around new year's resolutions.

"Many people seeking therapy in Kanata tell us that January feels stressful and overwhelming instead of bright and inspiring.
