WHY A COLD-WATER CLEANER IS BETTER FOR DENTAL APPLIANCES
Did you know that tap water could get to 122 °F (50 °C) or more?1 Warm water inadvertently increases the risk of damage to a dental appliance.
One study concluded, "the temperature of the water used by patients in their cleaning procedures is critical, and that the effects observed might be the result of a thermal shock experienced on immersion with microcrazing of the surface layer."2
Extra care must be taken for patients with lined dental appliances, which are even more sensitive to elevated temperatures. Handa et al. found that, "the temperature of the water used with denture cleansers might have a detrimental effect on the colour and surface roughness of some permanent and temporary soft lining materials."3
