VRapeutic is a UNICEF Innovation Fund portfolio software house, specializing in the development of rehabilitation and therapeutic solutions, with a focus on developmental and learning special abilities including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, in addition to others. Taking a scientific research-based approach, our product lines involve:
1) Innovative virtual reality-based curricula specially designed to instill essential life skills in children under four categories which are social, cognitive, motor, and academic skills. Our ever-growing library of software modules enables specialists and therapists to supervise the delivery of VR-based rehabilitation sessions, and they are also ready to be delivered in remote therapy settings.
2) Bio sensors-enabled experiences for occupational therapy and physical rehabilitation.

We’ve just submitted a new arXiv preprint: TOSHFA — a mobile VR pose-guided rehabilitation PoC for Low Back Pain (LBP).

TOSHFA in one line:
Laptop we**am runs real-time pose analysis → sends feedback → Android phone (Unity VR + cardboard headset) delivers an immersive rehab experience.

Why we built it:
To explore how devices people already have (phone + laptop) can enable immersive, feedback-driven rehabilitation—without needing specialized VR headsets.

This still isn’t “cheap” everywhere, especially in low-income settings. But repurposing increasingly available devices is a practical step toward democratizing tech-based physical healthcare.

And no—this doesn’t replace Yubreevi.
Yubreevi remains our web-based platform supporting remote specialist supervision and headset-based VR. TOSHFA is an additional pathway for flexibility and accessibility.

Next up: improving user satisfaction and expanding to more rehab domains.
TOSHFA (تُشفى) means “you be healed” in Arabic (passive voice).

New Research Announcement | VRapeutic × Zewail City of Science and Technology (Egypt)

We are proud to announce the launch of a new research study in collaboration with Zewail City of Science and Technology and the Multimedia Interaction and Communication Lab AAST and WeBios Lab-AAST, focusing on passive stress detection in virtual reality using computer vision.

The study investigates a novel, non-intrusive approach to stress evaluation—moving beyond wearable sensors such as EEG or skin conductance, and instead analyzing navigation behavior, posture, and micro-movements within carefully engineered VR environments. Our goal is to enable affordable, scalable, and accessible stress assessment for applications in mental health, education, training, and rehabilitation.

This work builds on VRapeutic’s mission to translate cutting-edge immersive technologies into evidence-based, real-world impact, particularly in contexts where cost, comfort, and scalability matter.

This summer, we had the pleasure of hosting and working closely with three talented interns from the College of Computing and Information Technology at the Arab Academy for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Egypt, as part of VRapeutic’s Play4Good initiative.

Over the past five weeks, these brilliant students have:

🌐 Earlier today, VRapeutic had the privilege of being represented at a UN-backed panel on "Bridging the Digital Divide: Virtual Worlds and Digital Twins in the Global South."

Our founder, Dr. Ahmad Al-Kabbany, joined experts from across sectors to reflect on how immersive technologies can promote inclusion, empower communities, and shape more equitable futures.

Since inception, VRapeutic has been committed to supporting research in the field of immersive technologies, especially in the healthcare sector. This commitment has taken several forms including supervision of graduation projects, partnership with research-centered educational initiatives, and providing several research groups with VR development resources.

We are glad to see the 3rd research article employing VRapeutic's products published in such a prestigious journal. This is the result of a tedious amount of work by the stellar team who was working on this study--Moshira Abdalla, Heba Hassan, Nourhan Sharaf, and Sara Ahmed. VRapeutic's team had done a good amount of work facilitating the mission of this group of promising researchers, and we are glad it paid off.
