DISCLAIMER this page does not provide clinical interventions & is not crisis service *No previous art experience necessary to engage in Expressive Arts Therapy. The Expressive Arts is an approach that combines poetry & story telling, music & sound, visual arts, movement, drama, presence (and more) to foster deep personal growth and community development. When used therapeutically the expressive ar

ts are a tool for self-discovery, self-care, self-reflection, connecting with our inner-wisdom and for creating our own clarity. It is a resource-based approach, where you can feel supported to explore your inner world. Through presence, my approach is unique to each client and my practice is moment specific, situation specific and person specific. As the client, you get to decide what questions to be with and how. As the practitioner, I will create a safe container for you to engage with your questions through the Expressive Arts. Together we will identify what works for you, and I will honour what you need. You can expect to come away from our time together feeling witnessed and connected. I came to Expressive Arts naturally, as in my personal life I have facilitated monthly women’s Circles for the past nine years. The purpose of these circles is to provide a safe space to foster a supportive community among women where we can tune into ourselves and our own intuition. I offer participants an opportunity to hold space for one another, practice self-reflection and engage with the creative process through journaling, meditation, poetry, music and conversation- all elements of an Expressive Arts practice! These monthly circles invite connection, healing and pause into all of our lives. As a host and facilitator, I curate a safe space and I promote increased well-being for myself and the women who attend these circles. I will draw from this experience and bring it into my practice as I support you. I started my own wellness journey when I attended my first yoga class at 14 years old. Then at 18, I began learning about presence and mindfulness and have continued to practice presence, mindfulness & various forms of meditation ever since. In addition to this practice, I read and write poetry, spend time with nature, dance in my living room and sing while I'm cooking. As a personal interest I also engage regularly with books, articles and podcasts on western psychology and Buddhist psychology. Expressive Arts has its roots in Indigenous ways of healing and I respectfully acknowledge that Indigenous cultures have used the arts for healing since time out of mind. Thank you for reading my bio and for considering me as your practitioner. Through a kind and compassionate approach, I look forward to supporting and igniting your creativity and path to wellness through the therapeutic use of the arts. “We also learned that trauma affects the imagination ... Imagination is absolutely critical to the quality of our lives. Our imagination enables us to leave our routine everyday existence by fantasizing about travel, food, s*x, falling in love, or having the last word—all the things that make life interesting. Imagination gives us the opportunity to envision new possibilities—it is an essential launchpad for making our hopes come true. It fires our creativity, relieves our boredom, alleviates our pain, enhances our pleasure, and enriches our most intimate relationships. When [traumatized] people are compulsively and constantly pulled back into the past, to the last time they felt intense involvement into deep emotions, they suffer from a failure of imagination, a loss of mental flexibility. Without imagination there is no hope, no chance to envision a better future, no place to go, no goal to reach...”

"for children, language is play and the toys are their words"
I have been growing my collection of miniatures and I am looking forward to working with Sand Tray Therapy as part of my Expressive Arts Therapy Practicum. The benefits of Sand Tray Therapy are not only for children and I am excited to share this profound work with adults who are curious about this modality. A heart felt view into Sand Tray Therapy with moving case study examples:

Charlotte Williams, Dearborn Therapy and I want to invite you to 4 online-Expressive Arts Therapy sessions over the spring and summer!

I am a student therapist and my modality is the expressive arts. This group will have structured arts-based invitations but you do not need to have any art experience! Observation is participation (everything is an invitation). You will need basic art materials like paper and markers/crayons. If we need more specific materials, I will send an e-mail closer to the day.

Please see the poster and share it widely! This is an Open Group, you may attend any and all sessions that fit your schedule.

One per month: May, June, July, August

Wednesday evenings 6pm-7pm CST

May 27th 6pm CST: chronic pain
June 24th: mindfulness
July 29th: acceptance
August 19th: self-compassion / gratitude

A bit of logistics: The meeting link will be sent out closer to the date. We will send out an e-mail reminder the day-of and we will remain online for up to fifteen minutes. To be respectful of everyone's time if there are no participants by 6:15pm we will close the meeting.

It was surreal to step onto the concrete foundation of this visionary building and learn about the multitude of avenues for healing that it will offer the residents of Grassy Narrows. Designed in consultation with the people of Grassy Narrows to reflect the needs, values and culture of the community, the Mercury Care Home is a long overdue step toward reconciliation.

Our team was honoured to visit the site of the future Mecury Care home in Grassy Narrows First Nation and learn more about the project as a whole.

Thanks to their team for sharing the journey about this. We are excited to continue to support the program, the project and most importantly, the people impacted. The picture is their final vision and being there today and seeing it constructed in real life, took our breath away 🪶 ❤️🥰

If you are a provider in our area, we urge you to explore the devastating consequences of mercury and absolutely approach clients with this lens to ensure you are not stigmatizing. We are learning so much how to better adapt and the drastic consequences felt through multiple generations.

"For thousands of years, healers have integrated a variety of creative arts into their therapeutic practices. In ancient Greece and Rome, drama and comedy were “prescribed” for individuals suffering from disorders such as depression or anxiety. Tribal dances have long been used for healing individuals and the planet. Music has been used to alter mood for hundreds of years. Contemporary Navajo healers still include sand painting and music in their healing. The expressive arts have the power to help us transcend the mundane and to connect with parts of ourselves that [we may otherwise be out of touch with, or unable to acces] ..." ~Suzanne Degges-White, PhD
